Job Description Summary
Aegon Asset Management (Aegon AM) is a leading global investor. Our 350 investment professionals manage and advise on assets of US $384 billion for a global client base of pension plans, public funds, insurance companies, banks, wealth managers, family offices and foundations.
We organize our firm around four investment platforms: fixed income, real assets, equities and multi-asset & solutions, which includes a fiduciary and multi-manager business. Each investment platform has dedicated teams with deep asset-class expertise, organized globally and committed to maximizing client benefit from their specialist areas.
We are an international business: Our 1,125 employees work from 14 locations across Europe, the Americas and Asia. We share a common belief in fundamental, research-driven active management, underpinned by effective risk management and a commitment to responsible investment.
Position Overview:
We are looking to hire an IT Engineer who is motivated to learn and contribute to delivering meaningful business value through strong engineering practices. In this role, you will work alongside the change organization, including Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Senior Engineers, to support the shaping of upcoming work so it is technically sound, feasible, and aligned with the direction of our platforms, including investment management platforms such as Aladdin and related data ecosystems.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
You will assist in translating business outcomes into clear and achievable technical solutions, gaining exposure to our Snowflake environment, DBT transformation layers, and AWS-based services, as well as supporting data and workflows tied to investment management platforms such as Aladdin (e.g., positions, transactions, and portfolio data). Working closely with experienced team members, you will contribute to engineering activities early in the change process while building an understanding of scope, feasibility, data design, and solution approaches. As part of our evolving technology strategy, you will also have opportunities to learn and apply modern engineering techniques such as automation, advanced tooling, and AI-supported development to improve quality and efficiency.
You will support the delivery of high-quality, solution-focused technology outcomes across the full delivery lifecycle. Working within cross-functional teams, you will build technical skills and business awareness while contributing to the development, testing, and deployment of solutions that meet business needs, including integration and data flows across investment platforms. This role focuses on developing problem-solving skills, applying established solutions, and gaining familiarity with engineering practices while working under guidance.
Once work moves into delivery, you will contribute to the technical build with support from senior engineers. This includes assisting with analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. You will help ensure solutions are reliable, secure, and aligned with engineering and data standards while continuing to develop your technical expertise and structured approach to problem-solving.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
You are eager to learn and grow as part of a global engineering team, contributing to team objectives while building your technical and business knowledge. You demonstrate curiosity, a willingness to follow established best practices, and a desire to develop problem-solving skills using existing solutions. You are open to learning emerging technologies and modern engineering approaches to support delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Basic understanding of the software delivery lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment, and support, within a DevSecOps framework.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts, with exposure to AWS services such as Lambda, ECS/EC2, S3, IAM, or CloudWatch (through coursework, training, or internships).
  • Exposure to SQL and data platforms such as Snowflake, including foundational querying and data concepts.
  • Awareness of data transformation tools such as DBT is a plus but not required.
  • Exposure to automation, scripting, or AI-supported tooling through academic, training, or project experience is beneficial.
  • Curiosity and openness to learning emerging technologies, including AI for automation, optimization, and innovation.
  • Basic understanding of agile delivery methodologies and associated tooling.
  • Awareness of testing concepts, including integration testing, automation, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to assist with technical analysis and contribute to solution implementation under guidance.
  • Developing ability to apply technical skills and business context to support solutions that deliver value.
  • Foundational knowledge of one or more programming languages or engineering disciplines (e.g., application development, infrastructure, or data).
  • Strong willingness to collaborate and learn from Product Owners, Analysts, and Engineering team members.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to ask questions, share ideas, and participate in team discussions.
  • Openness to feedback and continuous learning in a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic awareness of security, data privacy, and operational considerations.
  • Understanding of working within structured or regulated environments is a plus.
  • Exposure to financial services or asset management platforms (such as Aladdin) is beneficial but not required.

Required Qualifications:
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in software development, infrastructure engineering, or platform operations within agile delivery environments.
  • Hands-on experience with DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and secure coding.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies, cloud platforms, or agile methodologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, Scrum, SAFe) are desirable but not essential.
  • Background in financial services or asset management preferred.

Working Conditions:
  • Hybrid out of our Cedar Rapids, IA, office (in the office twice a week, between Monday and Thurday).

Job and compensation levels depend upon an applicant's qualifications including the extent of candidate's relevant experience and other job-related factors and will be determined by hiring supervisors/managers and HR.
