Key Responsibilities and Expectations:  

We are looking for a talented Lead Field Service Technician who can hit the ground running. As a Lead Field Service Technician for IPS, you will possess strong repair skills and provide unmatched service to our customers. You will perform predictive technology tasks, mechanical work, and various electrical tests as you diagnose and repair units. This is a hands-on position requiring the aptitude and attitude to do whatever it takes to get the customers back online safely. IPS Field Service Technicians demonstrate strong repair skills and commitment to providing an Unmatched Customer Experience. 

  • Responsible for overseeing work scopes on Large Motors (including synchronous), and leading field service technicians in the field.
  • Assist with developing proposals, performing job walks and defining work scope to meet customer needs and requirements on reliability, preventative maintenance, motor change-outs, and testing of customer equipment.
  • Perform on-the-job training of team members in advanced electrical skills and maintenance practices.
  • Perform electrical tests using various portable electronic equipment including but not limited to: Megger®, PdMA MCEmax, Multimeter, DLRO, Surge, Partial Discharge and Tan Delta.
  • Perform mechanical evaluations and predictive maintenance services including but not limited to: Sleeve bearing inspections, machine train alignments, vibration analysis, in-situ single & multi plane balancing.
  • Install/Remove AC and DC electric motors, laser align equipment, read precision measuring tools such as micrometers, replace sleeve and anti-friction bearings, set seals, air gaps, and torque critical components to proper specs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.  Think outside the box to get the customer back online quickly and safely.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures. 
  • Perform Cleaning of electro-mechanical equipment as needed, using various methods including but not limited to CO2 cleaning and solvent cleaning.
  • Maintain close relationships with customers as well as the sales, marketing, field service, and service center technical teams.
  • Prepare technical reports to provide information on the condition of the equipment, future services and recommend actions to be taken.
  • Represent the company in a knowledgeable and professional manner.

Qualifications and Competencies:   

  • Broad technical motor testing experience required
  • Synchronous motor experience required 
  • CAT Level II Vibration Analysis preferred  
  • 10+ years of AC/DC motor experience  
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow standardized work procedures, and apply strong analytical problem-solving dynamics in a continuous improvement environment  
  • Strong customer focus with professional communication  
  • Available and willing to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as required, willing to be on-call   
  • Ability to perform math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including understanding fractions and percentages  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills  
  • Computer skills  
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record  
  • Ability to travel locally and overnight

Physical Requirements:   

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight  
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time  
  • Ability to perform manual labor for up to 12 or more hours per day  
  • Acute hearing and strong field of vision
  • Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
