Reports to: Program Manager
Classification: Full Time Exempt,M-Th: 7:45a.m.-6:15pm (4 ten hour days)
Our Mission: Grace Place puts faith into action providing pathways out of poverty by educating children and families.
Summary/Objective:
Together with the managers of the ECE and Elementary After-School programs and the classroom teacher, the shared position of Support Teacher is responsible for supporting the implementation of high-quality, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate programming for both the morning Early Childhood program (approx. 27 hours/week) and the afternoon Elementary School-Aged After-School Program (approx.13 hours/week).
Assist in the implementation of lesson plans and instructional activities by utilizing the Grace Place established curriculum and resources, such as Creative Curriculum. Support the instructional methods of the class to promote math and reading growth including whole group instruction, center-based learning activities, homework support, and small group instruction.
Classroom support
Aid in maintenance of classroom organization by completing tasks such as, but not limited to the following: classroom set up and clean up, managing classroom supplies and materials, assisting the teacher with the preparation and implementation of classroom activities, and effective management of student behavior.
Build positive relationships with students and families to ensure successful PACT times (Parent and Child Together)
Maintain a well-organized, DCF-compliant, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of young children.
Volunteer Involvement
Welcome and encourage volunteer involvement in the classroom.
Maintain high visibility and a hands-on presence with students, staff, volunteers, and parents who are participating in the program.
Assessment
Assist in the preparation of classroom assessments in a timely manner.
Support the completion of all required Grace Place evaluations and checkpoints throughout the academic year.
Communicate developmental or social/emotional concerns to the teacher to support interventions or referrals.
Communication
Communicate with team members for seamless and consistent delivery of the program.
Assist in home visits, staff/parent conferences, and the SAP parent events.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, required.
Must obtain Foundation Florida DCF certificate within 1 year of employment.
One year of experience in youth development, childcare, or related field, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bi-lingual, preferred (English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole).
Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures and populations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite use of the internet, and basic computer skills sufficient to maintain program records and budgets, and communicate with parents, volunteers, partners, and community.
Strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills.
Commitment to the mission and core values of Grace Place.
Current first aid and CPR certificates (can be obtained within 90 days of employment).
Able to pass background checks and FDLE fingerprinting.
