Position Type: Full-Time, Contract (Maternity Cover)

Reports to: Math Remediation Lead


Job Summary

As a Middle/Senior School Math Remediation Specialist, you will play an important role in the critical, creative and collaborative thinking of students with regards to mathematics throughout the school. You will work with a collaborative, dynamic team of educators and staff who are passionate about the success of all learners. This role requires someone who can adapt and adjust their instruction and support teachers to meet the diverse needs of each learner and is passionate about student success. Excellent instructional practice in developing numeracy skills and numbers sense are required for this role. This role reports to the Math Remediation Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with Math Remediation Lead and all faculty teaching math to achieve math remediation excellence across the school, focusing on the development of students' mathematical numeracy and fluency skills
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the school-wide scope and sequence, targeting numeracy and fluency skill building
  • Develop and organize multisensory resources to supplement the scope and sequence and Multisensory Approach/CRA Method
  • Support/co-teach classes and provide support to students
  • Tutor a small group in high-school math (grades 11/12)
  • Assist teachers in the implementation of assessment tools and the identification of students' foundational skills
  • Critically assess student learning profiles and provide guidance and support to teachers on the best plan and approach for students struggling with math

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics
  • BC Teacher Certification (Teachers Regulation Branch) in the form of a Certificate of Qualification (CoQ) or Independent School Teaching Certificate (ISTC)
  • Experience working with learners in mathematics
  • Work with students who have learning differences is preferred
  • Independent school experience is an asset
