Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Materials Science Engineer to support product development, materials qualification, and advanced testing initiatives within a highly engineered manufacturing environment. This role will serve as a technical leader responsible for evaluating, selecting, developing, and improving materials used in critical product applications.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials characterization, product testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle management involving metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and coatings. This individual will play a key role in supporting emissions-related product development and ensuring products meet performance, reliability, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead material selection, development, qualification, and lifecycle management initiatives for advanced engineered products
  • Support product development efforts focused on improving performance, durability, manufacturability, and emissions compliance
  • Conduct materials testing, validation, and characterization involving metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and coatings
  • Analyze mechanical, thermal, chemical, and microstructural data to support engineering recommendations and product improvements
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive action initiatives related to material failures and product reliability concerns
  • Support emissions-related testing and regulatory compliance initiatives
  • Partner closely with Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support material and process improvements
  • Develop and oversee material qualification and validation plans
  • Support long-term materials technology and product improvement strategies
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership within cross-functional engineering teams
  • Assist with supplier qualification, material audits, and manufacturing process improvements
  • Support sustainability, cost optimization, and advanced material innovation initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Polymer Science, or related technical field required
  • Master's degree strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of Materials Science or Materials Engineering experience required
  • Strong experience with materials characterization, testing, and qualification
  • Experience supporting product development and advanced manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and coatings
  • Experience leading failure analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective action initiatives
  • Experience supporting regulated, high-reliability, or technically complex industries preferred
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead technical projects and collaborate cross-functionally within engineering organizations

  • Nickel-Chromium based alloys
  • Emissions systems or high-temperature applications
