GENERAL FUNCTION:

The primary role of the Private Bank Tax Services Accountant is fiduciary tax compliance. The individual will work under general supervision with internal and external clients including trust administrators, co-trustees, officers,andbeneficiaries to prepare all necessary tax authority filing requirements for assigned accounts.

In conjunction with the fiduciary returns (Forms 1099, 1041 and 5227), the individual with prepare other ancillary client returns including Charitable Entity returns (Forms 990 & 990PF), Individual returns (Forms 1040) and gift tax returns (Forms 709).

Serve as tax support to trust officers and assistants in the Investment Advisors division to meet the information needs required to provide and excellent customer experience and sustain growth.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Preparation of Returns and Estimated Tax Payments

  • Possess the capacity and interest to acquire the technical knowledge required to understand and apply fiduciary accounting and taxation.
  • Retrieve and assimilate data necessary to prepare accurate income tax returns.
  • Responsible for the completion of timely and accurate aforementioned tax returns for assigned accounts.

Tax Analysis

  • Review Trust documents and ensure accurate taxation of assigned accounts.
  • Monitor and analyze transactions for tax consequences.
  • Frequently advise investment officers and account administrators of any pertinent tax concerns.
  • Review and analyze information provided by individual income clients for estimated tax calculation and generate tax projections as requested for tax planning purposes.
  • Answer questions concerning tax liability, deductions and related issues including correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Frequent interaction with other areas of Investment Advisors a" especially personal trust and the Private Bank.
  • Participate in new business development.

Tax Research

  • Research areas of tax law as appropriate including analysis of the related data.
  • Research Federal, State and Local tax issues of law encountered during return preparation.
  • Research and present internal training on relevant tax topics as my be assigned by management.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.

Experience: Internship or co-operative experience in tax or prior public or industry accounting experience preferred.

Certification: Working toward CPA, EA or MBA preferred.

Technical: Knowledge of elementary accounting and tax subject matters; Microsoft Office software proficient; Understanding of tax return preparation software preferred.

Skills: This position requires excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with personnel ranging from staff, clients to senior management; Ability to work both individually and as a team member; Ability to work in a professional and dynamic environment; Demonstrate sound judgment as well as apply logical/critical thought process.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like.
