DEXTER INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:
Dexter Magnetic Technologies offers a rewarding and structured internship program where interns will work on industry projects setting them on an accelerated career path. The purpose of a Dexter internship is to provide students with the opportunity to gain "real life" business acumen within the Magnetics Industry. Gain hands-on product experience while working on challenging projects, networking with professionals, and learning from some of the brightest minds in business.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT IN AN INTERNSHIP AT DEXTER?
  • Work on projects that are related to your areas of interest and study with a high level of autonomy and ownership. These projects are designed to bring value to our business.
  • Dexter will provide weekly trainings that will be delivered by our experienced business leaders to improve your business acumen.
  • Interns will also be provided with personal development training and feedback.
  • Our internship program is diverse across functions and the group of interns will be regularly interacting.
  • Each intern is partnered with an experienced peer as a mentor.
  • Interns are included in company events and receive paid holidays.
  • Our interns who perform well are considered for future internship opportunities as well as full-time employment after graduation.
  • Our interns will be expected to work onsite at our manufacturing facility throughout the summer to collaborate with team members and peers.
  • Interns in the Summer of 2026 will experience our high-tech facility in Elk Grove Technology Park.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with process development, documentation, and optimization for machining and assembly operations.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot manufacturing issues with a focus on improving Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory (SQDCI) metrics.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives, including time studies, line balancing, 5S, standard work, and waste reduction.
  • Participate in VA/VE projects to identify cost-saving and productivity improvement opportunities.
  • Help design or improve tooling, fixtures, and workstations to enhance ergonomics, safety, and efficiency.
  • Collect and analyze production data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Create and update engineering documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and standard operating procedures

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering and be an incoming Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Fall 2026.
  • Coursework in manufacturing or operations preferred
  • Familiarity with Solidworks or 3D CAD Skills desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Data Analysis tools to support quality improvements and problem solving also desirable (e.g. MiniTab, Excel)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in manufacturing, automation, machining, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Hourly Rate:
1 year of college completed $22 per hour
2 years of college completed $24 per hour
3 years of college completed $26 per hour
4 years of college completed $28 per hour
