About the Position

The Assistant Fashion Designer, Knit Tops, Skirts, Skorts, PJs & Children's is responsible for creating original designs of Lilly Pulitzer merchandise and assisting with all stages of design development. The objectives and product strategies are to develop innovative designs that delight the customer, have high retail sell through and contribute to the profitable growth of the company. The company's brand positioning is Lilly's Resort Chic. A primary measure of doing this well is a meaningful increase in full price net sales.

The position is responsible primarily to assist with silhouette and artwork development, maintaining styles in the system, organization, communication, design boards, fashion illustrations, and material preparation for SMS meetings.

A day in the life...

  • Understand the Lilly Pulitzer customer, lifestyle, and positioning in the marketplace
  • Create original silhouette and artwork designs that delight the Lilly Pulitzer customer, increase full price net sales, have high full price retail sell through and contribute to the profitable growth of the company
  • Development innovative designs that are appropriate for Lilly Pulitzer and successful at retail
  • Provide clear technical diagrams and descriptions to Technical Design and the Sample Room to understand Fashion Design's intent for the style
  • Attend fittings at each stage of development to ensure the desired aesthetic fit is achieved
  • Manage design boards and technical flat sketches
  • Maintain styles each season in PLM
  • Every style in the line assortment needs to be entered and maintained in Centric PLM
  • Create proper Bill of Materials for each style in the line and pass off to Technical Design and Product Development each season
  • Update Centric PLM and boards after seasonal review meetings
  • Work closely with Color, Fabric, and Trim to research, design, and develop trim that is brand right and cost effective
  • Participate in trend research for Knit Tops, Skirts, Skorts, PJs and Children's categories
  • Assist in the review and preparation of samples at each stage of development
  • Maintain all activities consistent with the product development calendar
  • Maintain art and office supplies
  • Assist in fit comment follow-up with Product Development and Technical Design with complete details for executing quality garments
  • Organize information and files for efficient management of the department
  • Organize the design closet so that garments and trim submits are well catalogued
  • Communicate daily with team members and vendors, as appropriate, to inspire an open communication flow with attention to detail
  • Note, assistants/associates may be asked to perform duties outside the specific functions listed.

Qualifications for the Position

A four-year college degree in fashion design and relevant fashion internships/work experience is required.

The taste level and fashion sense to understand the Lilly Pulitzer customer and to design fashion merchandise which appeals to the Lilly customer.

Genuine excitement for the Lilly Pulitzer concept. The Assistant Fashion Designer must share the vision for the merchandise, consistent with the positioning in the marketplace.

A fashion point of view and attitude which are appropriate for Lilly Pulitzer

Proficient skills in silhouette and artwork development

Understanding of how print, pattern, and color translate into apparel.

Proficiency in Computer Aided Design, Centric PLM, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop is required.

Must develop fluency in current software and all of their capabilities; training will be provided as needed. Aptitude and willingness to learn new applications of Computer Aided Design which may be implemented.

Basic personal computer skills, such as Word and Excel in a Microsoft Office environment, are helpful.

Sense of urgency that is necessary in the apparel industry.

Sufficient organizational skills and detail orientation to maintain useful information and tracking systems.

This position is classified as full-time salaried; it is exempt and is not eligible for overtime. This position is eligible for standard company benefits.

This position is required to maintain a structured hybrid work schedule based out of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. This hybrid schedule, which includes work done in the King of Prussia Office as well as your Home Office will be determined by your supervisor.

This position may require domestic travel.

Given the seasonality of the business, this position will require flexible, additional working hours during peak periods.
