Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer - New York, NY Our client is a Leading Engineering Design and Commissioning Company that has a national footprint. They specialize in MEP critical facilities and provide design, commissioning, consulting and management expertise. This challenging and unique role will involve acting as a senior electrical engineer, designing critical power systems for new data centers and expansions to existing data centers. The ideal candidate will have past experience designing electrical systems specifically for large data centers. They will have experience and in-depth knowledge of Electrical Power Systems / Power Distribution System design and installation. Previous experience with electrical equipment design to include Generators, UPS systems, PDUs and electrical switchgear is a must. They will be proficient using AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP to develop electrical construction models and documents. You will help lead the design and effectively work with / communicate with all the trades and stakeholders involved in the project.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects, create designs and plans, provided and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role for all sizes of data center facility design projects- enterprise data centers, Colocation Providers and for Hyperscale Companies.
  • Create Conceptual Designs gathered from meetings with the client for Field Engineer focus
  • Work with Management to respond to RFPs; Review shop drawings and submittals; Review and respond to RFIs
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policies Put these in clear concise work statement for the field
  • Represent the company in project meetings as needed
  • Collaborate with all design staff and oversee full cycle electrical design activities
  • Interact closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, develop and edit project specifications and lead the construction administration process
  • Execute and lead design teams and design projects of complex scope
  • Perform intermediate to advanced electrical design tasks including development of electrical distribution systems and topologies, infrastructure and equipment layouts and selection / sizing of equipment
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings
  • Review and / or prepare book or sheet specifications for electrical systems
  • Develop and / or review sequences of operations
  • Assist in proposal development including project scope, schedule and budget
  • Effective management of project design team including resource forecasting and coordination
  • Identify potential project scope changes and aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines
  • Support contact for design clients and builds effective, long-term client relationships
  • May direct / coordinate interns / other engineering and technical staff
  • Survey existing building conditions / Conduct Field Observations and prepares technical reports of findings and commissioning support
  • Collect data and other information for construction documents
  • Prepare project design and construction documents
  • Review and complete punch lists and project closeout documents
  • Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Update and maintain shop drawing and RFI log

Qualifications:

  • 8-15 years experience
  • Experience working for MEP firms, an A/E firm
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering degree
  • Licensed PE / EIT a Plus
  • Experience with the design process of building systems for data center and mission critical projects
  • Knowledge of electrical systems found in buildings including single/three phase power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, grounding and life safety systems
  • Knowledge of codes and specifications for the design of electrical systems including National Electric Code, Life Safety and Energy Conservation Codes
  • Technical / design software including short circuit coordination and arc flash studies, equipment sizing, underground feeder calculations and lighting calculations
  • Previous experience using: Revit MEP projects, AutoCAD MEP, BIM a plus
  • Experience working on data center /data center / mission critical projects
  • Extensive Experience with Electrical Power Systems and Equipment - UPS / Uninterruptible Power Supply, Generators, Batteries, switchgear , Power Distribution Units, Backup Power , Electrical Power, Power Systems , Medium Voltage , High Voltage , etc.
  • Experience working on complex data center/mission critical facilities design projects a must
  • Proficient in design and calculation software
    MS Office: Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Teams, SKM Powertools, EDSA or ETAP experience is desirable
  • Exceptional organizational skills for file management
  • Skilled with various electrical topologies and distribution systems
  • Skilled in performing code analysis including selection of equipment, wiring, etc., to meet code requirements
  • Ability to successfully work independently
  • Self Starter, self motivated, and should prioritize well
  • Effective Communicator – emails, phone and face to face
  • Complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
  • Communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact

  • Previous Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.)
