Internship Labview information

What is an internship LabVIEW?

An Internship LabVIEW position is a temporary role, often for students or recent graduates, that focuses on learning and applying LabVIEW, a graphical programming language used for data acquisition, instrument control, and industrial automation. Interns in this role typically assist with developing, testing, and maintaining LabVIEW-based applications under the supervision of experienced engineers. The internship provides hands-on experience in programming, troubleshooting, and integrating hardware and software systems. It is a valuable opportunity to gain practical skills relevant to careers in engineering, automation, and research environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship LabVIEW?

To thrive as an Internship LabVIEW, you need a solid understanding of engineering principles, programming basics, and familiarity with data acquisition systems, often supported by coursework in electrical or mechanical engineering. Experience with National Instruments LabVIEW software, and potentially NI certifications or exposure to related hardware, is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help interns collaborate on technical projects and troubleshoot issues. These competencies are crucial for efficiently developing and testing automation solutions in a laboratory or industrial environment.

What types of projects do interns typically work on during a LabVIEW internship?

As a LabVIEW intern, you can expect to be involved in developing, testing, and troubleshooting automated measurement and control systems. Typical projects include creating virtual instruments, automating data acquisition processes, and supporting ongoing engineering tasks with LabVIEW code enhancements. Interns often collaborate with experienced engineers and may participate in team meetings, code reviews, and hands-on lab testing, providing valuable real-world experience in both software and hardware integration within an engineering team.

What is the difference between Internship Labview vs Internship Test Engineer?

In this role, you’ll work closely with the R&D team to build, test, troubleshoot, and improve systems and devices throughout the development life cycle. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a lab environment, using test equipment, collaborating with engineers, and contributing to products and processes that support healthcare.

This position is 100% on-site. Must be able to commute to Blue Ash, OH.

What You’ll Do

  • Under the supervision of the Director of R&D, or their designee, you will:
  • Provide hands-on technical support to the R&D team and help resolve engineering challenges as they arise.
  • Assemble electro-mechanical systems, devices, prototypes, and test setups using engineering documentation and sound technical judgment.
  • Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate the performance of devices, components, assemblies, and systems under simulated operating conditions.
  • Diagnose, debug, test, evaluate, upgrade, maintain, and repair devices, instrumentation, data acquisition units, and test systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, vendors, and assembly partners to identify and solve design, manufacturing, and process-related issues.
  • Record, analyze, and interpret test data to support design improvements and problem resolution.
  • Write clear test reports documenting operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations, and results for engineering review.
  • Build, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair lab equipment, prototypes, products, and test fixtures.
  • Support ordering of lab components, maintain R&D lab stock, identify calibration needs, and help keep lab equipment organized and functional.
  • Perform light assembly work in pilot production as needed.
  • Support Quality Assurance with incoming acceptance activities when necessary.
  • Follow corporate environmental, health, and safety programs, including bloodborne pathogens and hazard communication requirements.
  • Use common test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, Instron systems, micrometers, calipers, and similar tools.

What We’re Looking For

Education:

AA/AS degree, or equivalent progress toward a degree, in an engineering-related field such as electrical, mechanical, industrial, or similar discipline.

Experience:

2+ years of relevant technician experience, such as lab work, internships, technical assembly, testing, troubleshooting, or related hands-on experience.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of technology, electro-mechanical assemblies, and engineering principles.
Experience with engineering software platforms such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of basic statistics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation and reports.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset and effective communication skills.
  • Self-starter who can take direction, manage assigned work, and contribute in a cross-functional environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in an engineering laboratory and office setting and may include limited handling of clinically soiled product. Appropriate safety procedures and training will be provided.

Why Join Us

You’ll be part of a collaborative R&D environment where your hands-on technical skills will directly support product development, process improvement, and problem-solving. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, technical challenges, and meaningful work in the medical device space.
