Job description

Want to help connect millions of unserved and underserved communities to high-speed broadband internet - from space? Project Kuiper is Amazon's initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites that deliver low-latency, high-speed connectivity worldwide. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join the Customer Engagement Systems team and build the telecom applications and services that power how customers order, activate, and manage their broadband subscriptions.
In this role, you will design and implement components that sit at the intersection of satellite networking and customer-facing communications services. You will work across the full software development lifecycle - from requirements and system design through testing, deployment, and operations - solving problems that have never been solved before at this scale.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement telecom components, applications, and services for customer ordering, billing, subscriber management, and notifications
- Partner with the Satellite, Networks, and Security engineering teams to integrate Customer Engagement Systems with the core network
- Design scalable components, services, and data models that support high-reliability communications workloads
- Contribute to the full software development lifecycle including code reviews, testing, deployment, and operational support, ensuring root causes of issues are identified and permanently resolved
- Document system architecture and mentor teammates on how your software is constructed, operated, and maintained
A day in the life
You will spend your time designing and building services that enable customers to subscribe to and interact with a global satellite broadband network. On a given day you might be whiteboarding a new data model with a teammate, reviewing pull requests, or collaborating with the Networks team on an integration point. You will balance heads-down coding with cross-team design discussions and operational readiness activities.
About the team
Our team owns the architecture and roadmap for managing the customer ordering and billing lifecycle, subscriber management services, customer notifications, and customer metrics and analytics for Project Kuiper. We are a collaborative group building systems from the ground up to support a global telecom service, and we work closely with Satellite, Networks, and Security engineering teams to bring broadband connectivity to communities around the world.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
