Job description

Software Engineering Services (SES) is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to support the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC/NCC) and the Nuclear Planning and Execution System (NPES) operational community at Offutt AFB, Nebraska.
The Junior Software Engineer will work as part of an Agile software development team supporting requirements analysis, software development, testing, integration, cybersecurity, and sustainment of mission-critical NPES systems. The position will also assist the Cyber Security Specialist in ensuring hardware, operating systems, and software applications adequately address security requirements for the Computing Environment (CE). Mission-Essential Support
• This position supports mission-essential functions during exercises and real-world crisis events. The selected candidate may be required to provide on-call operational support, including rapid response during designated mission-critical events, in accordance with contract requirements. Key Responsibilities
• Perform system and requirements analysis supporting Nuclear Planning and Execution System (NPES), including evaluating impacts to and from integrated external systems.
• Support system architecture and concept analysis and assist with defining system, subsystem, software, and technical requirements.
• Capture, document, maintain, and trace NPES user and derived technical requirements.
• Participate as a member of an Agile development team, including requirements gathering and development of user stories.
• Support software design, development, coding, scripting, testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance.
• Perform Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and participate in peer design and code reviews.
• Support Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E) and Operational Test & Evaluation (OT&E) activities, including test plans, procedures, test scenarios, requirements traceability, and test results.
• Analyze the operational impact of proposed system and software engineering changes to NPES and related systems.
• Provide technical operational support, including system management, troubleshooting, problem analysis, quality assurance, and resolution of hardware, software, and interface issues.
• Assist with identifying and assessing cybersecurity vulnerabilities and implementing applicable security requirements.
• Assist the Cyber Security Specialist in ensuring hardware, operating systems, and software applications meet applicable Computing Environment (CE) security requirements.
• Support hardware and software installation, system configuration, software delivery, and NPES testing.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including requirements, designs, test documentation, configuration files, diagrams, and engineering records.
• Support NPES operational activities, exercises, technical evaluations, communications assessments, briefings, and demonstrations as required.
• Assist with evaluating COTS/GOTS technologies and developing software prototypes supporting system modernization.
• Provide technical and user support for NPES systems and assist with system training when required.
• Perform additional software engineering and mission-support duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of software engineering principles and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Experience or working knowledge of software development, coding, scripting, testing, systems analysis, or software integration.
• Familiarity with Agile software development and requirements/user-story development.
• Knowledge of one or more programming or scripting languages.
• Ability to analyze technical and operational requirements and support development of software solutions.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting NPES, USSTRATCOM, the U.S. Air Force, or other DoD mission systems.
• Experience with software or system DT&E/OT&E.
• Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity, vulnerability assessment, and information assurance requirements.
• Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, software deployment, or configuration management.
• Experience supporting classified mission-critical systems.
