Job description

Are you an experienced Bridge Engineer looking to progress your career? We're looking for an Intermediate or Senior Bridge Engineer to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in any of our locations across the Atlantic provinces.

Reporting to the Structural Bridge Lead, you will play a key role in the technical delivery and management of bridge projects—from conceptual design and analysis to construction review and inspection. The successful candidate will have the opportunity of designing various structural systems out of steel, concrete, and timber, including the design of prestressed concrete, GFRP reinforced concrete, composite steel/concrete sections, and composite precast/cast-in-place sections.

You will have excellent opportunities to grow and develop your engineering skills with the company, as well as mentor Engineers-in-Training and junior Engineers.

At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We’re an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We’re large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

You’re an ideal candidate if you have:

  • Initiative to lead projects and drive tasks to completion.
  • A collaborative mindset and enjoy working across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
  • A commitment to mentoring others.
  • A proactive approach to client communication and problem solving.

A typical day on the job might look like:

  • Lead or support the design and analysis of bridge structures in steel, concrete, and timber, including prestressed and composite systems.
  • Prepare and review contract documents, technical reports, and construction estimates.
  • Conduct and oversee bridge condition assessments, inspections, and load ratings (including above and below water).
  • Provide construction support services, including review of shop drawings, responses to RFIs, and on-site problem resolution.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring compliance with client expectations and quality standards.
  • Assist in business development activities, including preparation of proposals and participation in client meetings.
  • Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, fostering technical growth within the team.
  • Adhering to all company policies.
  • Other duties as required.

The good stuff you get:

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)

Your background and what you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited University.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in bridge structural design, inspection, and construction support. Any other heavy civil experience such as with marine or dam structures will be viewed as an additional asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with prestressed concrete, steel and composite structures, and timber systems.
  • Working knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (CHBDC, CSA).
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as SAFI, StructurePoint, WoodWorks, Microsoft Office is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with Clients, Contractors, and Colleagues.
  • Valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle for work related travel
