Job description

2026 Fall Intern - Formulation and Drug Product Development

Department Summary

Roche is a recognized leader in the transformational field of gene therapy, working to advance new therapeutics. The Drug Product Development (DPD) team in Philadelphia is part of Roche's Gene Therapy Technical Development function and is seeking a highly motivated Intern. As a member of our dedicated Process Development function, you will play a key role in formulation and method development. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute directly to the technical and analytical capabilities within DPD, supporting our gene therapy portfolio.

This internship position is located in Philadelphia, PA, on-site

The Opportunity

  • Gain hands-on experience with AAV formulation and biophysical characterization techniques.

  • Work alongside Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design, execute, and analyze wet-lab experiments.

  • Document experimental protocols and results in laboratory notebooks, and present technical findings to the DPD team and collaborators.

  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives aimed at optimizing process development workflows.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 6 months full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in September (Fall)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must have attained a Master's Degree.

Required Majors: Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related fields.

Required Skills:

  • Practical experience with protein- and/or DNA-related laboratory techniques and safety.

  • Strong academic understanding of nucleic acid and protein sciences and biophysical characterization.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Prior experience with nucleic acid and/or protein sciences in an academic or industry setting.

  • Familiarity with gene therapy concepts, Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) biology, or bioprocessing concepts.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Philadelphia is $28.00-$35.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
