Outreach Athletic Trainer - Professional Basketball Paid Internship
Rewarding full-time, paid Athletic Trainer internship opportunity supporting the Philadelphia 76ers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for the 2026-2027 season!
The Athletic Trainer (AT) will practice within the parameters of their state athletic training license while adhering to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics established by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and the Board of Certification (BOC). Responsibilities are based on the needs of the contracted organization and JAG Athletic Training Services and may be modified by the Athletic Training Leadership Team as needed.
This position is responsible for evaluating, treating, and managing musculoskeletal injuries; developing individualized rehabilitation programs; and collaborating with a multidisciplinary performance and medical team to help professional basketball athletes perform at their highest level while minimizing injury risk. This position will be a paid internship opportunity from September 2026 through August 2027.
Reporting Relationship:
The Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Head Athletic Trainer of the Philadelphia 76ers.

What You'll Need
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited program
- Board of Certification (BOC) certification
- Maintain the BOC-required 50 CEUs every certification cycle
- Current Athletic Trainer licensure in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey
- New Jersey Department of Education Certificate
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Personal professional liability insurance
- Strong flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
- One to two years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer
- Experience working with professional and/or collegiate basketball teams
- Experience implementing basketball-specific return-to-play protocols
- Familiarity with athlete management systems and performance technologies (GPS, force plates, EMR software, etc.)
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-performance environments with elite athletes
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus
What You'll Do
- Evaluate and treat acute, subacute, and chronic musculoskeletal injuries in professional basketball athletes
- Provide athletic training coverage for practices, games, and team events
- Develop and implement evidence-based rehabilitation programs tailored to each athlete's needs and performance goals
- Collaborate with team physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, and performance staff to deliver comprehensive care
- Coordinate and implement medical and risk management services, including preventative care (taping, bracing, etc.), emergency response (CPR, first aid, etc.), and maintenance of medical records
- Perform manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and therapeutic modalities as appropriate
- Monitor rehabilitation progress using objective outcome measures and modify treatment plans accordingly
- Travel with the team throughout the regular season and playoffs to provide on-site athletic training, treatment, and recovery services
- Document evaluations, treatments, rehabilitation progress, and injury data in accordance with team, league, and company standards
- Assist with return-to-play testing and functional performance assessments
- Support injury prevention initiatives, workload management, and biomechanical assessments
- Participate in pre-season screenings and off-season performance programs
- Serve as the workers' compensation case manager by coordinating insurance documentation, referrals, claim tracking, and communication with the contracted organization while maintaining HIPAA and FERPA compliance
- Ensure a safe athletic environment by identifying and managing environmental risks
- Communicate regularly with the supervising physician and follow established medical protocols when not directly supervised
- Perform other duties as assigned
