Description

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 253-bed hospital serving the fastest- growing area of San Antonio. Specialized care includes orthopedic and surgical care with advanced spine surgery, Intensive Care, complex neurology for treating stroke and other neurovascular issues, comprehensive cardiovascular care from diagnostics to open heart surgery, vascular lab, sleep center, women’s services, a newborn nursery, the CHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, emergency services, and more. The campus also boasts an Outpatient Imaging Center, an Ambulatory Surgery Center, and four medical plazas, one of which houses our CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Health Center. 

Summary:

Position supports the patient care mission of the Interventional Radiology Lab and supports staff flexibility goals by working as part of a clinical team and through effective cross-training. The individual in this position is qualified to provide high quality/acuity nursing care through appropriate medication administration, medication and procedure documentation; cross-train to perform hemodynamic monitoring and scrub assist. Performs assigned direct and indirect patient care in accordance with departmental and organizational goals. Operates all nursing related equipment, computers, and software related to direct patient care and documentation of care. Contributes to the general operation of the department by participating in managing/stocking supplies, keeping the work area(s) orderly, engaging in patient transportation, and post-procedure care as appropriate while supporting customer service initiatives. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development to perform procedures on and assist in the care of the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. A current Registered Nursing (RN) License will be required for these individuals prior to employment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes Organizational Principles of Catholic Healthcare; Solidarity, Holistic Care, Respect for Human Life, Participatory Community of Work and Mutual Respect, Stewardship, Act in communion with the Church.
  • Provides customer service in conjunction with the culture and philosophy of CHRISTUS Health.
  • Assess and collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s condition and procedure; analyze data to ensure expected outcome related to plan of care; engage in patient teaching before, during, and after procedures
  • Assess clinical condition of patients and administer/document medications as dictated by radiologist/physician verbal or written order, including controlled substances for sedation and pain control when circulating procedures
  • Participates in daily room checks and stocking of supplies
  • Accesses daily patient schedule and appropriate patient information for assigned procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate equipment, supplies, and room configuration for all procedures
  • Collaborates with procedure team and Interventional technologist to ensure appropriate patient care and departmental efficiency at all times
  • Ensures proper patient information is entered into Interventional Radiology computer and imaging systems
  • Ensures proper procedure documentation, hemodynamic measurements(according to hospital sedation policy), and ECG recognition during assigned procedures
  • Ensures patient position is appropriate on procedure table per procedure type.
  • Supports and anticipates the needs of the Radiologist/Physician and ensures patient safety when an interventional procedure is performed.
  • Adheres to aseptic technique 100% of the time during procedures
  • Adheres to organizational policies and processes related to patient safety, patient privacy, infection control (hand hygiene), and patient communication before, during, and after procedure
  • Collaborates with others on the team in sharing knowledge; to gain and provide appropriate knowledge as appropriate; to foster teamwork and team cohesion
  • Obtains and maintains proficiency in access site management
  • Adheres to the attendance policy and departmental productivity standards
  • Supports department and organization’s commitment to Zero Harm and Customer Service
  • Adheres to departmental and organizational dress code

  • Supports and promotes Unit based Councils, process improvement projects, and a nursing collaborative care model that meets requirements for magnet status.

  • Preparing patients for procedures: Includes checking and verifying vital signs, meds, NPO status, lab results, and medical history.
  • Coordinates patient flow and triage procedures according to patient status.
  • On Call duties.

Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma required. 
  • Graduate of a diploma, associate (ADN), or baccalaureate (BSN) academic program in nursing yielding a Registered Nursing (RN) License as required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1-year prior Acute Care hospital experience in intensive care, emergency care, or cardiovascular care required (e.g. Cath Lab, ICU, Cardiac IMC, ER); prior Interventional Radiology experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and basic computer skills required. Prior Interventional Radiology-based training and advanced computer system skills preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current BLS required
  • Current ACLS required
  • PALS Certification Preferred (Required for Pediatric setting)
  • PEARS Certification Preferred (Required for Pediatric setting)
