The Laboratory Section Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and participating in all aspects of daily operations in an assigned section.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions
Provides daily supervision of personnel and reporting of tests.
Monitors workflow evaluates compliance with service guarantees and quality control requirements.
Works cooperatively with all customers and responds effectively to meet or exceed the customer’s needs. Monitors customer service satisfaction and addresses issues in a timely manner.
Orients and trains team members in department.
Completes performance competency evaluations, coaching plans.
Recognizes and provides positive feedback and reward for performance and addresses disciplinary actions for all team members of an assigned section.
Schedules staff to meet workload requirements while minimizing expense.
Expected to assume bench responsibilities as needed and regularly scheduled to perform testing to maintain proficiency.
Regularly performs and reports both routine and special laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes.
Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
Monitors test analysis to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained and that corrective action is taken as required.
Evaluates team competency, monitors test results, worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing and maintenance logs. Responsible for evaluating new tests methodologies and instrumentation and makes recommendations to the laboratory manager.
Implements new test methods and procedures under the direction of the laboratory manager and medical director.
Supports the manager in maintaining the operational budget within budgetary constraints.
Orders operating supplies and monitors inventory control, productivity and appropriate testing utilization.
Directs the development and compliance of all departmental policies and procedures for test performance, quality control, preventative maintenance including troubleshooting procedures according to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Monitors work flow and delegates responsibilities to team members of the section.
Regularly communicates with Manager on day to day operations.
Manages various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.


Other Related Functions
Understands the role and function of all laboratory areas and is able to fulfill team leader responsibilities in other areas as required.
Maintains an active role in the laboratories quality improvement program (incident reports, CAP surveys, TAT’s, service guarantees) and ensures level of competencies to include orientation, departmental training, and complete understanding of all areas of assignment.
Enforces departmental compliance of all safety and infection control practices.
Maintains confidentiality of patient record and hospital and departmental issues at all levels.
Interacts with other laboratory sites to support consistency and standardization in testing methodology and procedures to provide the same quality of patient care. 


Qualifications

Education/Training

Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technology or appropriate training facility. Bachelor’s degree in related science field. Completion of an approved clinical laboratory training internship.


Licensure/Certification
Maintains current supervisor license and medical technologist license required for area of responsibility - Florida Department of Health.


Experience
Five (5) years laboratory experience.
