Inpatient Physical Therapist (PT) โ€“ Clinical Allied (Travel Assignment)
Compensation
  • Weekly Pay Range: $2,600 โ€“ $2,800 per week
    (Based on 40 hours/week; compensation may vary depending on experience, qualifications, and compliance requirements. Taxable and non-taxable components apply in accordance with applicable laws.)

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and patient-centered Inpatient Physical Therapist (PT) to provide high-quality rehabilitative care within an inpatient clinical setting. This role is responsible for evaluating patients, implementing evidence-based treatment plans, administering therapeutic modalities, and supporting safe and effective discharge planning for hospitalized patients with acute, sub-acute, and complex rehabilitative needs.

The ideal candidate is clinically competent, detail-oriented, and experienced in delivering physical therapy services in an inpatient environment while maintaining strict compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and the Physical Therapy Practice Act.


Key ResponsibilitiesInpatient Patient Care & Treatment
  • Evaluate and treat inpatients with a wide range of medical, surgical, neurological, and orthopedic conditions.

  • Implement individualized treatment plans and select appropriate therapeutic modalities to meet established functional and rehabilitation goals in an inpatient setting.

  • Provide prescribed physical therapy interventions to facilitate recovery and functional mobility for patients with mental or physical impairments.

  • Perform ongoing assessments, monitor patient progress, and recommend modifications to treatment plans and discharge disposition as appropriate.

  • Deliver safe, effective, and age-appropriate therapy treatments in accordance with each patientโ€™s clinical condition, cultural background, and rehabilitative needs.

  • Appropriately and consistently delegate patient treatment procedures and modalities in accordance with scope of practice and hospital policy.

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient discharge planning, including mobility recommendations, durable medical equipment (DME) needs, caregiver training, and patient education.

Documentation, Workflow & Productivity
  • Maintain thorough, timely, legible, and consistent inpatient documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), including evaluations, daily notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

  • Meet individual productivity standards established by the inpatient rehabilitation department.

  • Utilize available resources to support patient flow and care coordination, including scheduling, documentation support, and interdisciplinary rounding as applicable.

Compliance & Safety
  • Demonstrate consistent compliance with the organizationโ€™s Code of Conduct, compliance policies, hospital licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and the Physical Therapy Practice Act.

  • Identify, address, and report compliance concerns, safety issues, or suspected violations in accordance with hospital policy.

  • Maintain treatment areas, equipment, and supplies to ensure a safe inpatient care environment.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, case management, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other interdisciplinary team members to optimize inpatient patient outcomes.

  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and in a timely manner with patients, families, physicians, supervisors, and interdisciplinary care teams.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and departmental meetings as assigned.

Education & Professional Development
  • Provide education and mentoring to physical therapy student interns as assigned.

  • Participate in special department programs, quality improvement initiatives, and performance improvement activities.


Required Skills & Competencies
  • Strong clinical skills in inpatient physical therapy, including functional mobility, gait training, balance training, transfer training, and therapeutic exercise.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced inpatient hospital environment.

  • Knowledge and ability to administer departmental modalities, programs, and protocols appropriate to an inpatient population.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and support staff to ensure coordinated inpatient care.


Education Requirements
  • Required: Bachelorโ€™s Degree or higher in Physical Therapy (PT)

  • Preferred: Masterโ€™s Degree or Doctorate (DPT) in Physical Therapy


Licensure & Certifications
  • Required: Active Physical Therapist license issued by the State of California Physical Therapy Board

  • Required: American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support)


Schedule & Assignment Details
  • Setting: Inpatient Hospital

  • Schedule: Wednesday / Thursday / Friday / Saturday

  • Hours Per Day: 10-hour shifts preferred (8-hour shifts considered)

  • Hours Per Week: 40 hours
