Position Description
The Maintenance Technician II, Injection Molding performs preventive and corrective maintenance on specialized manufacturing equipment at Applied Medical's facilities in Rancho Santa Margarita and Lake Forest, California. This role applies hands-on technical expertise to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems, minimize downtime, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production and quality objectives in a regulated medical device manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Technician II works within a highly collaborative team that values knowledge sharing, technical growth, and respect for skilled craft. This position offers exposure to a wide range of equipment and systems, providing diverse, challenging work that directly impacts production uptime and operational outcomes. Professionals with backgrounds in injection molding maintenance, industrial equipment repair, electromechanical systems, or manufacturing maintenance will find this role a strong match.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on injection molding, liquid injection molding (LIM), extrusion, rubber molding, blown film, sintering, and furnace equipment to support efficient production operations
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems using schematics, manuals, and technical documentation with minimal supervision
  • Collaborate with production teams, engineers, and leadership to ensure consistent product quality and streamlined workflows
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, equipment status, and service records in accordance with good documentation practices
  • Assist in training and mentoring new team members on equipment operation and maintenance procedures
  • Promote and maintain a safe, organized work environment in alignment with Applied Medical's safety standards and manufacturing protocols

  • Mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues are diagnosed and resolved quickly to support continuous manufacturing operations

Position Requirements
This position requires the following skills and attributes:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of experience repairing injection molding, extrusion, or rubber molding equipment
  • Ability to read mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical schematics
  • Proficiency in using basic hand tools and climbing ladders up to fifteen feet
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty pounds and work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail in maintenance tasks
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
  • Motivated, self-starting approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • Strong understanding of team collaboration and a demonstrated drive to contribute to shared goals
  • Willingness to perform duties outside of the standard position description

Preferred
The following skills and attributes are preferred:
  • Familiarity repairing Arburg, Toshiba, Sumitomo, Cincinnati, Krauss Maffei, or Maplan injection molding machines, robots, liquid injection molding (LIM) equipment, rubber mills, rubber presses, extruders, blown film systems, sintering ovens, and furnaces
  • Experience with heat treat ovens, hydrogen generators, and nitrogen generators
  • Background in medical device manufacturing or regulated production environments
  • Electromechanical certification or degree
