Mold Maker (Injection Molding) - PSC6325

Pay: $28 – 40/Hour+ Full Benefits

Location: Near Akron, OH

A well-established plastic manufacturing company located near Akron, Ohio, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mold Maker to support the design, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of complex injection molds. This position plays a vital role in ensuring optimal tooling performance and longevity, contributing directly to quality output in a high-volume production environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in mold construction, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.


Responsibilities

  • Build, assemble, and fit new injection molds to precise specifications using CNC, EDM, lathes, mills, and grinders.

  • Perform complex mold maintenance, repairs, and refurbishments to support production needs.

  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble molds with a focus on preventative and corrective maintenance.

  • Read and interpret mold designs, technical drawings, and blueprints.

  • Analyze tooling failures and implement root cause corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling meets performance and dimensional requirements.

  • Maintain accurate records of all mold maintenance, repairs, and tooling status.

  • Assist with mold setup and troubleshooting during production as needed.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and best practices during tooling operations.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to tooling processes and performance.

  • Coordinate with external tool shops and suppliers for outsourced repairs or modifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a Mold Maker or equivalent in a high-volume injection molding environment.

  • Strong knowledge of injection mold design, tool steels, and fabrication processes.

  • Proficiency with manual and CNC machining equipment, EDM, and surface grinding.

  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving mold issues such as flash, short shots, and misalignment.

  • Experience with precision molds and tight-tolerance tooling.

  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems and the ability to interpret complex blueprints.

  • Deep understanding of cooling, venting, gating, and ejection systems within molds.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate across departments.

  • Strong organizational skills and experience maintaining tooling documentation.

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physically demanding tasks.

  • Willingness to work off-shifts or weekends when necessary to support production.
