Job description

Johnson Service Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) Test / Validation Engineer for a 12-month contract position in the Raleigh, NC area.

Selected candidates MUST be a US Person / Citizen and MUST provide an available start date, DOB (MM/DD), and the last 4 digits of SSN in order to have their resume submitted to the client company.

This position requires a criminal background check as well as a drug screen. Candidates must not have any felony charges or convictions.

Job Title: Engineer II - Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) Validation Engineer

Pay Rate: $62.22/hr

Schedule: HYBRID – TELEWORK MON & FRI 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a one-hour lunch, on-site requirement is Tuesday through Thursday.

Location: Raleigh NC (27616)

Contract/Project Length: The initial duration of the role is set for one year, while keeping options for extension or conversion flexible.

Interview Process: The initial interview process is set to be conducted via Teams, with on-site visits considered optional based on candidate location.

Description:

The HIL Engineer is responsible for the setup, integration, maintenance, and validation of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems used for the development and verification of power electronics, energy storage, and control systems. The engineer will work closely with controls, firmware, system, and hardware engineering teams to develop HIL models, configure test environments, automate test execution, and support product verification activities throughout the development lifecycle. This role requires hands-on experience with HIL platforms (e.g., OPAL-RT), test automation, and hardware/software integration.

Platform expertise requirements Candidates are required to have experience with either the Opal RT or Typhoon platforms, with Opal RT being the preferred system.

Minimum experience requirement The minimum professional experience requirement for the position is established at three years.

The team specifically uses Opal-RT machines for their center of excellence. While Opal-RT experience is preferred, they are willing to consider candidates with Typhoon experience if the candidate demonstrates the potential to learn the Opal-RT system quickly.

Experience with DSpace alone is not considered acceptable for this role.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience with setup, integration, maintenance, and validation of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems used for the development and verification of power electronics, energy storage, and control systems
  • Experience with either the Opal RT or Typhoon platforms
  • Experience with controls, firmware, system, and hardware engineering teams to develop HIL models, configure test environments, automate test execution, and support product verification activities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with HIL platforms (e.g., OPAL-RT), test automation, and hardware/software integration
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant field
