Internship Hackathon information

What is an Internship Hackathon?

An Internship Hackathon is a competitive event, often organized by companies or educational institutions, where students or interns collaborate in teams to solve real-world problems or build innovative projects within a limited time frame. These hackathons usually last from a few hours to a few days and provide participants with the opportunity to showcase their technical and creative skills. They also serve as a platform for networking, gaining practical experience, and sometimes even securing job offers or internships. Internship hackathons often focus on specific themes like software development, product design, or data science, and are valuable learning experiences for participants.

What can I expect in terms of collaboration and mentorship during an Internship Hackathon?

During an Internship Hackathon, participants typically work in small, cross-functional teams, allowing you to collaborate closely with peers from diverse backgrounds. Mentorship is a key component, with experienced professionals offering guidance, answering questions, and providing feedback throughout the event. You’ll have opportunities to network, learn from others, and receive real-time support as you tackle challenges, which helps accelerate both your technical and soft skills development. This collaborative environment fosters creativity and innovation, making it an excellent setting for personal and professional growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hackathon Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hackathon Intern, you need a solid foundation in programming, problem-solving, and teamwork, often supported by current enrollment in a computer science or related degree. Familiarity with coding languages, collaboration platforms like GitHub, and rapid prototyping tools is typically expected. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills help you stand out when working in high-pressure, collaborative environments. These skills are crucial for quickly developing innovative solutions and effectively contributing to team success during the intensive hackathon experience.

Job description

San Francisco, CA · On-site (5 days/week) · Full-time
Compensation: $120,000–$160,000 + 0.05%–0.15% equity

About the Company

A Seed-stage FinTech building AI compliance analysts that automate AML, KYC, KYB, and transaction monitoring end-to-end for banks and fintechs — clearing cases in minutes with zero integration or onboarding. The product eliminates ~90% of manual work, cuts compliance costs 4x, and makes onboarding instantaneous, and is trusted by leading institutions across the US, Canada, Europe, and LatAm.

Founded 2024 · 1–10 people · Industry: FinTech / Compliance / AI

The Role

Work directly with the CEO, operate across every function, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks as the team scales — part right-hand-to-CEO, part generalist operator, part future GTM owner. You'll take what's on the founder's plate and either own it outright or drive it to the point where the only thing left is the decision. The growth path runs from shadowing the CEO, to owning GTM workstreams, to potentially running a function as the team scales.

What you'll be doing

  • Work directly with the CEO across every function: sales, GTM, marketing, product, operations, people, and strategy
  • Take ownership of projects on the CEO's plate — drive them to completion or to decision-ready
  • Manage the CEO's inbox, calendar, and high-leverage communications
  • Lead select strategic projects end to end (product launches, hiring loops, partnership evaluations, internal ops)
  • Hop on client calls, attend conferences, and contribute to deal cycles
  • Help shape the foundation for the teams that come next (marketing, customer success, product)

Tech stack: N/A — generalist operator seat, not a technical build role.

Requirements
  • 0-4 years total experience
  • Top-tier university preferred (MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, comparable)
  • Structured thinker, high attention to detail
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and high ownership
  • Consulting, IB, VC, or startup ops background welcome
Green Flags
  • MBB consultant (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) with 1-3 years tenure, top performer.
  • Investment banking analyst at top-tier firm (Goldman, Evercore, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Lazard, Centerview, PJT) with 1-2 years tenure.
  • Strategic ops or chief of staff at a top-tier startup with demonstrated 0-1 ownership and direct founder access.
  • Top university pedigree (MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, Princeton, comparable) paired with builder signal (founded something in college, scrappy internship, hackathon wins).
  • Quantitative or technical undergrad with non-technical career trajectory. Signals both analytical depth and breadth.
Red Flags
  • Pure manager profile or anyone who has not done IC work in years.
  • Big-company lifer without startup adaptation signal or builder instinct.
  • Sales background. The seat is generalist execution, not selling.
  • Candidates uncomfortable with the unglamorous half of the work (inbox management, scheduling, follow-ups).
  • Cannot or will not do 5 days in person in SF.
Why Join
  • Direct-to-CEO seat with genuine 0-1 ownership and a builder-owner growth path into GTM and, over time, running a function.
  • Category-defining compliance-AI product with real traction — ~90% of manual work eliminated, costs cut 4x, trusted by institutions across four regions.
  • Strong early-career package: competitive base + equity at Seed, paid relocation and one month of temporary housing, office meals, comprehensive healthcare, unlimited PTO, and an annual offsite.
Details
  • Location: San Francisco, CA
  • Work policy: On-site, 5 days/week
  • Compensation: $120,000–$160,000 + equity
  • Visa sponsorship: None available
  • Employment type: Full-time
