Purpose The City of Savannah's Bridge to Success Student Internship Program offers vocational and college students the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in municipal government. Through this program, interns will perform real tasks that provide valuable exposure to City operations while building practical skills relevant to their field of study. In addition to gaining professional experience, interns will develop insight into career opportunities within the City of Savannah and the vital role local government plays in our community.
Participants will be assigned to departments that align with their academic interests and career goals, working alongside City staff and leadership. Essential Job Functions Support daily departmental operations, research, administrative tasks, and project coordination Assist with internal and external communications, data collection, reporting, and community engagement activities.
Collaborate with City staff to develop creative solutions for departmental challenges. Attend meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions as required. Demonstrate the City of Savannah's core values of service, transparency, and community engagement.
Note: Each department will provide interns with a structured work plan outlining assignments and expectations Program Areas Include (But Not Limited to): Management Services Information & Public Affairs Government Operations Community Services Water Resources Planning & Economic Development Savannah Police Department Savannah Fire Department Minimum Qualifications Must be currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program at an accredited vocational school, college, or university College students may be enrolled at either the undergraduate or graduate level. Students pursuing certificate or diploma programs must be at least halfway through their required coursework to be eligible. Individuals may apply within one year of completing a vocational program, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or graduate program Students must submit an official vocational school or college transcript.
________________________________________ Graduate Level Interns: Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university Must have completed at least fifteen (15) credit hours with a minimum 2.0 GPA A valid driver's license is preferred Undergraduate Level Interns: Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university Must have successfully completed at least one year (freshman year) of study Must be approved by the internship coordinator (If applicable). A valid driver's license is preferred. Additional Information This is a paid internship Letters of recommendation is highly recommended
Selected interns are expected to work a minimum of 12.5 but no more than 16 hours per week for 12 weeks for the duration of the internship term. This program is scheduled to run September 14, 2026 through December 4, 2026. The competitive hiring process for interns will follow the City's Recruitment and Selection Policy
Applicants selected to move forward can expect to complete the full recruitment cycle, which includes interviews, a background check, and passing of a drug screening, if identified as a candidate for hire. Completion of the application in its entirety is required.
