ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

GLOBAL HEALTH TEAM

The UN Foundation’s Global Health Team works to mobilize political and financial support for global health priorities, strengthen coordination across the global health system, and advance solutions to global health challenges. Our work is grounded in long-standing relationships across the multilateral health community and our position as an independent partner to the UN.

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY

The Global Health Communications Intern will contribute to external and internal information sharing and creative storytelling to advance the UN Foundation’s global health work, covering issues such as pandemic preparedness and response, infectious disease surveillance, and life-threatening diseases such as polio and malaria. The intern will utilize their storytelling and digital communications skills to develop and manage content that demonstrates the value of multilateral collaboration to address critical global health challenges.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Draft communications materials, including blogs and social media, on health-related topics
  • Develop content for a webpage that will highlight the UN Foundation Polio Press Fellowship
  • Track the performance of the UN Foundation’s global health content
  • Assist with creation and dissemination of the Unite for Health newsletter to inform key audiences about multilateral efforts to advance global health priorities
  • Support and facilitate the UN Foundation’s communications activities around major global health moments and observance days, including the UN General Assembly
  • Assist with managing and developing photography, video, and social media assets that explain and illustrate polio and malaria eradication activities Download and categorize photographs and videos and assist with video production and editing for social media Contribute to content development planning to highlight best practices for polio and malaria eradication and advance advocacy goals
  • Work with other Global Health, Public Affairs, and health-related campaigns/alliances team members
  • Other duties as required

  • Develop deeper understanding of global health governance and multilateral cooperation and the key role communications plays in advancing solutions to global health challenges
  • Contribute to communication activities that support partners across multilateral institutions, governments, academia, and civil society
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship. Graduates of an accredited college or university are also invited to apply
  • Familiarity with the current global health agenda and key UN and/or multilateral organizations
  • Communications and public relations skills and experience, such as: email newsletter management (Mailchimp), web design and content management (WordPress), video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro), graphic design (Adobe CS, Canva, etc), and media and social media tracking and analytics
  • Ability to write engaging content for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
  • Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet
  • Must be available to work 20 hours per week on a fixed schedule
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and audience-appropriate materials
  • Demonstrated ability to follow-through on assigned tasks, meet agreed deadlines, and communicate promptly when timelines or priorities change
  • Ability to follow established processes and maintain clear, accurate, and accessible documentation
  • Interest in the mission of the UN Foundation, UN, and/or multilateral organizations and ability to approach global issues with curiosity, respect, and cultural awareness
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The essential functions of this role will be performed in a remote work environment, provided the employee maintains a dedicated workspace that supports confidentiality and productivity. Remote employees must ensure limited background noise and environmental distractions to effectively perform essential job functions.
