As a world leader in telecom cable systems, the Prysmian Group’s Claremont fiber manufacturing plant is seeking a highly motivated, self-starter, developing leader to join the engineering department to support the manufacturing of optical fiber.  This individual will evaluate, troubleshoot, and conduct process control and improvement activities on a daily basis and through long-term projects.  

Requirements: 
  • B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Glass Science, Ceramic, or Metallurgical Engineering) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a complex manufacturing process or an internship experience in a complex manufacturing environment
  • Ability to understand complex process flow and machinery
  • Desire to become a subject matter expert in the assigned process area
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to make progress on short term and long term initiatives
  • Exhibit engagement, involvement and curiosity about other departments or process areas outside of immediate assigned area
  • Ability to influence people or departments outside of direct process area

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor manufacturing processes on a daily basis to identify trends and out-of-control situations and provide solutions according to urgency and importance.
  • Be the leader in the process area responsible for yields, documentation, procedures, tracking data, and technical innovation.
  • Prioritize issues to make meaningful impacts on the process yields and productivity
  • Develop or maintain performance indicators on a weekly or monthly basis to ensure the process is meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • Perform root cause analysis on reasons for trends, equipment issues- importantly repeat equipment issues, and process drifts. 
  • Provide data and explanations to other process engineers, lead operators, process technicians, and other departments in order to maintain process stability.
  • Report on a weekly basis a summary of process changes, developments, improvements, project progress to the engineering manager.
  • Work with operators to identify process problems and also provide occasional process training.
  • Work with technicians to identify equipment problems and also provide training.
  • Write process documentation and update procedures.
  • Be on call on a pre-determined rotating schedule and occasionally provide off hours support
  • Lead improvement projects in the facility.
  • Identify cost reduction projects and work with the team to implement them.
  • Implement process changes or new products as directed by R&D.
  • Collaborate with engineers at other international Prysmian plants to resolve process problems or make process improvements.
  • Become a contributing member of the global process control team with a desire to generate change.
  • Comply with all applicable safety procedures and ISO14001 EMS guidelines
