Description:

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment!

Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating.

The Junior Counselor is responsible for assisting the Unit Leader in developing and executing unit program to a group of 12-20 girls and offer creative educational opportunities in an outdoor setting utilizing the Girl Scout program The Junior Counselor is responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of an inclusive program and ensuring skill development, personal growth and fun.

Immediate Supervisor: Head Unit Leader

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the operation of the camp and its programs to reflect the goals of Girl Scouting.
  • Attend all sessions required of position at Pre-Camp Orientation
  • Know the girls in the unit and help them learn to respect the rights of others and to understand the differences and similarities of other campers.
  • Teach outdoor skills and appreciation of the out-of-doors.
  • Help guide activities and experiences in the unit using troop government, girl leader planning, and the Girl Scout program.
  • Help coordinate unit activities with those of the entire camp.
  • Help supervise unit housekeeping, sanitation, care of supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in the overnight program and pre-camp training.
  • Promote high camper and staff morale.
  • Follow all procedures established in the Camp Communicable Disease. Plan to mitigate risks associated with communicable diseases including Covid19
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Daily Rate: $90 - $100 per day (depending on experience). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $12 - $13.33 per hour respectively.

Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 16 years old; if under 18 years old, must be 2 years older than girls in the unit in which they work.
  • Completion of the Counselor in Training 1 and 2 program and have experience in the Girl Scout program.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain current certification of standard First Aid and CPR (training to be provided).

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
