Job Summary

This internship will provide an undergraduate student with practical experience supporting Collier County Emergency Management. The selected intern will assist with projects related to emergency preparedness, Emergency Operations Center operations, planning, information management, technology, communications, resource coordination, training, and organizational readiness.

Assignments may be tailored to the student’s academic background, skills, and interests. Relevant areas of study may include Emergency Management, Public Administration, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, GIS, Public Relations, Strategic Communications, Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Organizational Leadership, Engineering, or related fields.

Potential assignments may include:

  • Supporting emergency plans, exercises, training, and EOC procedures

  • Developing guides, checklists, templates, presentations, and program materials

  • Assisting with dashboards, forms, data management, GIS, or process improvement

  • Supporting emergency messaging, preparedness materials, and social media monitoring

  • Assisting with resource coordination, inventories, and request-tracking processes

  • Conducting research and documenting findings, workflows, and lessons learned

The ideal candidate will be organized, dependable, comfortable learning new systems, and able to communicate effectively and complete project-based assignments

Essential Functions

  • Participate in projects and activities that apply knowledge and skills developed through academic coursework.

  • Support Emergency Management programs, planning efforts, exercises, training, documentation, technology, communications, data, or resource coordination.

  • Use various technology platforms to research, gather, organize, analyze, and present information.

  • Work collaboratively with Emergency Management staff and other partners to understand assignments, meet established deadlines, and produce quality work.

  • Apply critical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills when completing assigned tasks.

  • Develop or assist with guides, checklists, presentations, reports, tracking tools, public information materials, or other program products.

  • Demonstrate professional workplace behaviors, including reliability, timeliness, effective communication, initiative, teamwork, adaptability, and respect.

  • Participate in the internship as a learning experience by asking questions, receiving feedback, and developing an understanding of local government emergency management.

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with the internship supervisor regarding assignments, progress, questions, and potential challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed at least one full term or semester - Undergraduate.

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university - Graduate.

  • Must be available to work for the entire duration of the internship program.

  • Fingerprinting required.
