Position Specific Summary
Position Summary
The Human Resources Intern will provide administrative and project support to the HR department, gaining hands-on experience across core HR functions including recruiting, onboarding, employee records management, and HR communications. This role offers an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a career in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recruiting & Onboarding Support
  • Assists with posting open positions to the university's applicant tracking system and external job boards.
  • Screens incoming applications and coordinates interview scheduling between candidates and hiring managers.
  • Prepares onboarding materials, welcome packets, and new hire checklists for incoming employees.
  • Supports the coordination of new employee orientation sessions and assists with logistics and materials preparation.
HR Administration & Records
  • Maintains and updates employee records in the HR information system, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assists with filing, scanning, and organizing personnel documents in compliance with records retention policies.
  • Responds to general HR inquiries from staff and students, escalating complex matters to HR staff as appropriate.
  • Supports audits of employee files and HR databases to ensure data integrity.
Projects & Communications
  • Assists with research and data gathering for HR projects, including policy reviews, compensation benchmarking, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Drafts HR communications, announcements, and intranet content under the guidance of HR staff.
  • Supports the coordination of HR events such as benefits fairs, training sessions, and recognition programs.
  • Prepares reports, spreadsheets, and presentations as assigned.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned, related to specific departmental needs.
Standard Position Description
The student will serve as an administrative assistant and perform tasks to support the operations of the office or department with limited oversight while completing assignments, projects, and duties. Tasks may also include: lead and organize administrative functions for mid to large scale programs, projects, or events, serve as a key point of contact for departmental inquiries, assist in the management of department or program communications and data entry/reporting, and/or provide oversight and support for student staff and other administrative tasks. Special projects or duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or demonstrated interest in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

  • Previous internship, work study, or volunteer experience in an office environment.
