Position Summary:
The Fish & Game Marshal reports to the Lieutenant of Investigations and is responsible for protecting life and property, preserving public peace, and enforcing applicable tribal, federal, state, and local laws, including fish and game regulations.
This position safeguards tribal lands, waterways, wildlife, and natural resources through proactive law enforcement, conservation efforts, emergency response, and community engagement. Responsibilities include investigating violations, apprehending offenders, supporting search and rescue operations, and promoting safe and lawful outdoor recreation.
The Fish & Game Marshal also supports community-oriented policing through education, outreach, and collaboration with tribal citizens and partner agencies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Patrol assigned areas by foot, motor vehicle, ATV, or watercraft to detect, prevent, and investigate violations of tribal, federal, state, and local laws, including fish and game regulations.
- Enforce natural resource laws, regulations, and ordinances related to hunting, fishing, trapping, boating, navigation, trespassing, and ATV operation.
- Patrol tribal lands, lakes, waterways, and wildlife areas to protect natural resources, prevent poaching, and ensure the safety and preservation of wildlife habitats.
- Conduct wildlife and game population monitoring activities, including game counts, predator control patrols, and assistance with wildlife management and ceremonial harvests.
- Respond to complaints, calls for service, emergencies, and reports of non-compliance involving conservation, public safety, and criminal violations.
- Search for, collect, protect, and preserve evidence; identify and interview victims, witnesses, suspects, and involved parties; and develop investigative leads.
- Issue citations and violation notices; serve warrants, summonses, subpoenas, and other legal documents; and testify in court as required.
- Take appropriate enforcement actions, including the authorized use of firearms or force, to protect life, property, and public safety.
- Provide protection for public officials, prisoners, citizens in danger, and tribal property as assigned.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with tribal citizens, schools, youth programs, and community organizations through community-oriented policing and conservation education.
- Deliver public education and outreach on conservation, wildlife protection, outdoor safety, and responsible hunting and fishing practices.
- Demonstrate effective public speaking and communication skills during school programs, community events, public meetings, and media interactions.
- Build, maintain, and repair fences, structures, and habitat improvements to support wildlife conservation efforts.
- Collaborate with BIA and tribal, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on joint operations and investigations.
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain records related to incidents, investigations, enforcement actions, and daily activities.
- Stay informed of community conditions, resource concerns, and emerging issues; provide recommendations to command staff as appropriate.
- Successfully complete required training and maintain all required certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Thorough knowledge of conservation operations principles and practices, including investigation, patrol, communications, records management, community/public relations, and crime prevention.
- Thorough understanding of ecological principles and the factors affecting wildlife species, populations, and habitats.
- Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, practices, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, tribal, and state laws, ordinances, and departmental rules and regulations.
- Ability to carry out, interpret, and enforce existing laws, policies, and procedures, and to assist in the development or improvement of policies and methods within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Ability to interact effectively with the public, internal staff, and external organizations while exercising courtesy, discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment, and to provide or obtain information, explain procedures, and address positionrelated matters.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and external partners.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment under pressure while preserving the integrity and sovereignty of the tribal organization.
- Ability to gather, prepare, maintain, and safeguard operational reports and routine records, including confidential or sensitive information.
- Demonstrated high level of responsibility for public safety and the enforcement of laws and public safety standards.
- Must have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving domestic violence or moral turpitude.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles safely for official duties.
- Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
- Must be reasonably available and willing to respond to after hours callouts and emergency incidents on a 24hour, asneeded basis.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Special Law Enforcement Commission (SLEC) through the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services.
- Must be willing and able to perform all jobrelated travel as required.
- Must be willing to carry a firearm and use deadly force, when necessary, in the performance of official duties.
- Must possess the physical and mental stamina necessary to perform the essential functions of the position and to endure the inherent physical demands, discomforts, and dangers of law enforcement work.
- Must successfully complete a comprehensive physical examination meeting the specifications of the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service.
- Must be at least twentyone (21) years of age.
- Must be able to successfully pass a tribal background investigation and drug screening.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license in good standing and qualify under the Quapaw Nation Motor Vehicle Policy.
Experience:
- Prior training or experience in fish and wildlife enforcement, natural resource management, conservation, outdoor recreation, or law enforcement is preferred.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must possess Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification.
- Education in Criminal Justice, Wildlife Management, Natural Resources, Conservation Law Enforcement, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
Physical Abilities:
- Frequently required to sit, speak, and hear, and regularly stand and walk for extended periods during patrol and emergency responses.
- Must use hands and fingers to operate lawenforcement equipment, firearms, tools, controls, and communication devices.
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms, including above shoulder height, and perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling during lawenforcement operations.
- May be required to use the senses of smell and taste to detect environmental hazards or conditions impacting public safety.
- Must occasionally lift, carry, push, or move objects or individuals weighing more than 100 pounds during emergencies, rescue, or custodial situations.
- Required vision abilities include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to safely operate vehicles and firearms and maintain situational awareness.
Working Conditions:
A significant portion of the work is performed outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions. The position may also involve infrequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, and vibration.
While performing required duties, the individual may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided by the employer and must be properly used as required.
