Automation Specialist - Binding & Servicing

Novella

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Posted 25 days ago

Job description

Novella is the first AI native insurance brokerage protecting some of the largest, most complicated physical assets in the world. Whether it's sky scrapers on the Miami coast exposed to hurricanes, or rockets going to Mars - Novella's specialty AI agents are trained to help insurance brokers find coverage for their highest-risk customers.
These high-risk customers are part of a $150 Billion per year market segment called Excess and Surplus (E&S) Insurance. Today, all $150B of E&S premium is sold manually by humans working with humans. Novella is the first brokerage building AI agents that can augment humans and superpower them.
We're building a world class team with backgrounds in AI and insurance, who are excited about making insurance brokers 100X better at their jobs.
The Role
The servicing function is where a lot of insurance goes to die. Subjectivities sit open for weeks, endorsements get lost in email threads, and policies don't get filed correctly. The customer experience suffers, the producer gets frustrated, and the business slows down.
We're looking for an Automation Specialist on our Servicing team to make sure that doesn't happen at Novella - and to help us build the systems that make it impossible to happen at scale. You'll own the lifecycle of bound accounts: chasing down outstanding items, working with producers, carriers and ResourcePro, and getting policies issued cleanly and quickly. Just as importantly, every time you do a task by hand, you'll be partnering with our engineering and AI team to figure out how to never do that task by hand again.
This is a great role for someone early in their insurance career who wants to learn the E&S business inside and out, while working with the most modern tooling in the industry.
The Day to Day
  • Service new business accounts after bind - chase down outstanding subjectivities, SL forms, diligent effort forms, loss runs and any other items needed to get a policy issued cleanly.
  • Support producers throughout the lifecycle of the account - inspection reports, NOCs, billing issues - making sure the agent is aware of any outstanding items and helping drive them to resolution.
  • Manage filing with ResourcePro - making sure each policy is filed correctly and the right information is uploaded.
  • Handle endorsements and mid-term changes - soliciting required info from the agent and getting the change processed with the carrier.
  • Partner with our engineering and AI team to identify the most painful, repetitive parts of the servicing workflow and help design the tools that automate them away.
  • Be the voice of the customer (and the producer) internally - if something is broken or slow, you raise it and help fix it.

What We're Looking For
  • A degree in Risk Management, Insurance or a related field.
  • Some prior exposure to insurance - an internship or early career role in a clerical, admin or operations function at a broker, carrier or wholesaler.
  • Exceptional organization. This role lives and dies by follow-through - nothing falls through the cracks on your watch.
  • High EQ and strong written communication. You'll be emailing producers and carriers all day - the way you write reflects on Novella.
  • Genuine curiosity about how things work. We don't want someone who just executes the process - we want someone who questions it and wants to make it better.
  • Comfort with technology. You'll be living inside our internal tools and helping shape the next versions of them.
  • Startup-ready. Every day at a startup is like a decade in the corporate world - we move quickly and do whatever needs to get done.
