United Way for Greater Austin is a regional organization, and this role may be responsible for supporting our regional projects and initiatives. 


Who we want:


The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the organization's talent acquisition and employee experience initiatives. This position is primarily responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding employees, developing relationships with universities and community organizations to build talent pipelines, coordinating internship programs, and supporting HR operations such as benefits administration and payroll. The ideal candidate is highly organized, relationship-focused, and passionate about creating a positive employee experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Recruiting
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for various positions across the organization.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and develop recruiting strategies.
  • Source, screen, and interview candidates to identify qualified talent.
  • Coordinate interviews and facilitate the offer process.
  • Maintain applicant tracking system records and recruitment metrics.
  • Build and maintain talent pipelines for current and future hiring needs.
University & Community Partnerships
  • Develop and maintain relationships with colleges, universities, technical schools, and community organizations.
  • Represent the organization at job fairs, career events, networking functions, and community outreach programs.
  • Coordinate campus recruiting initiatives and internship opportunities.
  • Promote the organization's employer brand within the community and educational institutions.
Internship Program Coordination
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and engagement of interns.
  • Coordinate internship schedules, projects, and evaluations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for interns and hiring managers throughout the internship experience.
Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Facilitate new-hire onboarding, orientation, and new-employee paperwork.
  • Ensure a smooth and positive onboarding experience for all new employees.
  • Coordinate employee separations, exit interviews, and offboarding processes.
  • Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
Benefits & Payroll Support
  • Assist employees with benefits enrollment and questions.
  • Support annual open enrollment activities.
  • Coordinate benefits-related communications and documentation.
  • Assist with payroll processing, audits, and employee payroll inquiries.
  • Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of employee data.
HR Administration & Employee Support
  • Maintain employee files and HR records.
  • Assist with employee relations matters and HR programs.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Prepare reports and HR metrics as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives.
Other Duties
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 2-5 years of Human Resources experience, with emphasis on recruiting and employee lifecycle management.
  • Experience with payroll and benefits administration preferred.
  • Experience working with universities, internship programs, or community partnerships is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong recruiting and sourcing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS/ATS systems.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.

Preferred Certifications

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or willingness to obtain certification.
