What are internship film script readers?

Internship film script readers are individuals, often students or recent graduates, who work as interns for production companies, agencies, or studios to read and evaluate screenplays. Their primary role is to write coverage, which includes a summary of the script and an assessment of its strengths, weaknesses, and potential for production. This internship provides valuable industry experience and insight into how scripts are selected and developed for film and television. Script readers help decision-makers quickly determine which projects are worth pursuing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Film Script Reader, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Film Script Reader, you need strong analytical reading skills, a solid grasp of screenplay structure, and preferably coursework or experience in film studies or creative writing. Familiarity with industry-standard script formats and coverage templates, as well as proficiency in tools like Final Draft or Celtx, is typically required. Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to provide constructive feedback help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure you can effectively evaluate scripts, support development teams, and contribute to selecting strong projects for production.
