Job description

The Appian Product Management function is responsible for the creation, refinement, and scaling of products and services that power our global platform. Operating at the intersection of business strategy and cutting-edge engineering, our team transforms complex technical challenges into seamless customer solutions. Appian provides AI automation for mission-critical work. We automate complex processes in large enterprises and governments.ย

Why should a rising product professional launch their career at Appian? This role embeds you directly as a product owner within a tight-knit, high-velocity engineering team. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, you will actively own a prioritized product development backlog and shape features through interactive design sessions, UX reviews, and usability testing. Surrounded by structured mentorship, hackathons, and dedicated "Indie Time" for passion projects, you will have the autonomy to make real-world impacts on our global Enterprise-Grade Orchestration software.

This role is based at our headquarters in McLean, Virginia. Appian was built on a culture of in-person collaboration, which we believe is a key driver of our mission to be the best. Employees hired for this position are expected to be in the office 5 days a week to foster that culture and ensure we continue to thrive through shared ideas and teamwork. We believe being in the office provides more opportunities to come together and celebrate working with the exceptional people across Appian.ย

What You'll Do

  • Own the Backlog: Act as the dedicated product owner for a small team of engineers, owning and prioritizing the product development backlog to ensure high-quality software delivery with every iteration.
  • Drive Vision & Roadmaps: Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand enterprise software product roadmaps, aligning team execution with the broader product vision and strategy.
  • Champion User Experience: Share ideas and gather rapid feedback on features through design sessions, mockups, UX reviews, and usability testing to guarantee user success prior to release.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner across engineering and business units to ensure smooth feature rollouts in an agile-led work environment.
    ย

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a strong academic record.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a professional, academic, or technical setting (includes internships, research, capstones, or consistent part-time/full-time employment).
  • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate in a professional environment.
  • Proven fluency in AI and LLMs, encompassing both the strategic development of AI-powered platform capabilities and the hands-on application of AI tools to accelerate daily workflows.ย

At this time, Appian will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and running sprint ceremonies.
  • Previous professional work experience or multiple internships in a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g. executive roles in student organizations, club leadership, or captaincy of team-based activities).

Thank you for your interest in joining our team! Please note that we will officially begin reviewing applications and scheduling interviews starting August 2026. We appreciate your patience and look forward to connecting with you then.

At Appian, we embrace AI as part of how we work and innovate. While candidates are encouraged to use AI for preparation and learning, we restrict AI usage for live interviews and assessments unless otherwise specified. In some cases, AI use may be part of the assessment, and expectations will be communicated in advance.
