Job Description:

Airbus is looking for a Summer Intern - A320 Family Liaison Engineering to join our Airframe Team based in Mobile, AL

About the Role:

As an A320 Family Liaison Engineering Intern, you will work directly within our fast-paced Final Assembly Line (FAL) environment. You will assist engineering teams with real-time technical support, supporting primary and secondary airframe structures, non-conformity resolutions, and shop-floor engineering updates for A320 Family aircraft. This role bridges classroom engineering knowledge with practical application across manufacturing, quality, and transnational design networks.

Meet the Team:

Our Engineers have the privilege of working on sophisticated, highly engineered machines and are involved at all stages of the aircraft life cycle, from product development to manufacturing and direct support to our airline customers. The Liaison team operates directly on the shop floor to ensure aircraft safety, airworthiness, and production flow. Join our mission to connect the world!

Your Working Environment:

The Engineering Center and Final Assembly Line in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers supporting the assembly, integration, and delivery of world-class commercial aircraft.

Program Highlights:

Your Challenges & Responsibilities

  • Engineering Support & Non-Conformities: Assist engineers in reviewing shop-floor non-conformities, concessions, and technical queries related to primary and secondary metallic/composite airframe structures.

  • Technical Documentation & Data: Help organize, update, and draft basic design datasets, rework instructions, and Design Query Notes (DQNs) under supervision.

  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in engineering innovation projects (automation, data analytics, or digitalization) to help eliminate recurring industrial defects.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Attend shop-floor briefings, record meeting minutes, and support liaison activities between Manufacturing, Quality, and Design engineering teams.

  • Reporting & Tracking: Generate weekly status reports, compile technical data into usable formats for future reference, and assist in creating technical presentation materials.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Enrolled in an accredited, full-time 4-year undergraduate or graduate degree program in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical or Systems Engineering.

  • Minimum Sophomore level standing or enrolled in a Master's degree program.

  • Authorized to work in the US without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

  • Basic understanding of airframe structural concepts, mechanical design principles, and material properties.

  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software (CATIA preferred) and engineering drawings.

  • Strong proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, Word, PowerPoint / Sheets, Docs, Slides).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote: Full-time onsite unless otherwise approved by management and human resources.

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings; daily.

  • Hearing: able to hear in order to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear safety warnings or alarms; daily.

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications; daily

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment; daily.

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs; once a month.

  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs; once a month.

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools; once a month.

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer; daily.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices; daily.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces; daily.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
