The Agency You'll Join:
The NYC Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ) was established in October 2023 as the City of New York's centralized agency to advance equity. Our mandate is rooted in a simple but powerful belief that every New Yorker deserves the chance to live, work, and thrive with dignity.
To realize that vision, MOERJ brings together several key initiatives and offices, including the NYC Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), NYC Her Future (NHF), the NYC Young Men's Initiative (YMI), and the Mayor's Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs, as well as cross-agency bodies like the NYC Pay Equity Cabinet (PEC) and the NYC Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE). Together, we create a unified framework for addressing the many ways inequity shows up in daily life.
The Problems You'll Solve:
The Policy Analyst will play a critical role in designing and supporting the policy agenda of MOERJ. They will be responsible for research and analysis of MOERJ's policy priorities, as well as those of New York City Agencies across the spectrum. They will work collaboratively with teams across the agency, interact with policy experts inside and outside of government, and report to the Policy Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and produce memos and other work products related to MOERJ policy priorities, including policy strategies and positions related to MOERJ programs and communities served
- Leverage data and research to advocate for legislative changes and foster collaborative partnership across government
- Ensure policy positions are thoroughly researched, strategically assessed, and effectively championed with stakeholders
- Support preparation for public testimony, proposals, and related materials, as needed
- Prepare draft comments, position statements, and memoranda on proposed laws or regulations
- Prepare draft responses to public inquiries related to agency policy priorities, as needed
- Develop and/or deliver policy-related presentations and create public-facing briefs
- Conduct in-depth research on policy impacts and interpret complex laws
- Identify and evaluate emerging policy innovations and best practices aligned with MOERJ's mission; Curate and maintain in a knowledge repository that supports policy work
- Develop and maintain organizational tools to track relevant policy proposals, developing laws, and legislative/regulatory changes
- Collaborate and coordinate with MOERJ colleagues and/or other city offices on policy proposals
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities in support of emerging departmental and agency needs as assigned

Qualifications

1. Graduation from an accredited college with a baccalaureate degree; or
2. Graduation from an accredited community college plus two years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities; or
3. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus four years of experience as described in "2" above; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
