DESCRIPTIONThe City of Shoreview is currently accepting applications for an Engineering Intern to assist the public works team with projects this summer. Projects will include street, trail, retaining wall and utility construction; GIS mapping; and asset management. The internship will offer the opportunity to work closely with experienced engineering staff and participate in informational tours of public facilities and construction projects.
DUTIES INCLUDE- Assists with entry-level tasks related to survey and construction of the City's infrastructure, including observation, measurement and documentation.
- Performs field & office inventory of assets (utilities, retaining walls, recreational equipment) using GPS equipment for GIS mapping.
- Creates and maintains detailed records in GIS and AutoCAD.
- Participates in other tasks and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in (or completion of) a degree or certificate program in civil engineering, environmental engineering, geography, or closely related field.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle report.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with ArcGIS Online/Pro, ArcMap or other ESRI software.
- Experience with AutoCAD software.
- Experience with surveying.
- Experience with heavy civil construction.
- Related experience (volunteer, internship, employment, etc.).
OTHERHours: Typically, Monday through Friday: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (May/June through August). Occasional overtime as needed.
Wage: $19.00 per hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed indoors and outdoors, including in active construction site environments. Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, lift, push, talk, hear and use repetitive motion of the hands, wrists and/or fingers. Employee is occasionally required to kneel, crouch and reach. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently and 30-50 pounds of force occasionally.
The work environment may involve exposure to construction-related hazards, including uneven terrain, varying weather conditions, noise, dust, vibrations, and proximity to heavy equipment and moving machinery. The employee is required to follow all safety procedures and wear the provided personal protective equipment when appropriate.
