Internship Engineering Rotational Program information

What is an internship engineering rotational program?

An Internship Engineering Rotational Program is a structured internship where participants rotate through multiple engineering departments or projects within a company over a set period of time. This allows interns to gain exposure to different engineering disciplines, work styles, and teams, helping them develop a broad skill set and discover their interests. The program is designed to provide hands-on experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities, often with the goal of preparing participants for full-time roles after graduation.

What can I expect from the team structure and mentorship during the internship engineering rotational program?

Engineering Rotational Program interns typically work within cross-functional teams, allowing exposure to various disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. Each rotation is usually supported by dedicated mentors or supervisors who provide guidance, feedback, and regular check-ins to help interns navigate new projects and responsibilities. You can expect to collaborate with both fellow interns and experienced engineers, participate in team meetings, and contribute to real-world projects. This structure fosters learning, professional growth, and networking opportunities throughout the internship.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an internship engineering rotational program, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Internship Engineering Rotational Program, you need a solid foundation in engineering principles, problem-solving abilities, and enrollment in or completion of a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with technical tools such as CAD software, data analysis programs, and common engineering systems is often expected. Strong communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills help interns excel as they rotate through diverse projects and teams. These competencies ensure interns can quickly contribute, learn from varied experiences, and adapt to the dynamic needs of different engineering functions.

Job description

The Chrysler Institute of Engineering (CIE) Program is highly selective with a limited number of openings each year. Only the best and brightest college graduates are chosen. Trainees should embody strong work ethic while maintaining a sense of purpose and modesty throughout the program.

During the first two and a half years of work, participants in the CIE Program will receive challenging rotational assignments. The program begins quickly to build skills and knowledge through a series of work assignments. Each CIE candidate completes five, six-month rotations within the corporation getting the chance to experience multiple areas.

Participants in the program with a Bachelor’s degree, must also pursue a Master’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering. Program participants will be paid half day per class, per week to allow them to complete their master’s degree while completing their Product Development CIE Trainee work assignments. With an average course load of two classes per term, the trainee should earn their master’s degree at the same time they complete the 30-month CIE Program. As an added benefit, tuition is paid in full.

Participants in the program with a Master’s degree will participate in the rotational portion of the program but will not be required to pursue a Master’s degree.
