Internship Engine Room information

What is an internship engine room?

An Internship Engine Room typically refers to a hands-on training position within the engine room of a ship, usually for marine engineering students or cadets. Interns assist with the operation, maintenance, and repair of ship machinery under the supervision of experienced engineers. This internship provides practical experience in marine engineering, familiarizing participants with safety protocols, mechanical systems, and daily operations at sea. It is an essential step for those pursuing a career as a marine engineer or officer.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during an engine room internship?

As an Engine Room intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of hands-on tasks such as assisting with routine maintenance, conducting equipment inspections, and supporting repairs under the supervision of experienced engineers. Interns often help monitor engine performance, keep detailed maintenance logs, and participate in troubleshooting mechanical or electrical issues. This role offers a great opportunity to gain practical experience with shipboard machinery and learn industry best practices, while working closely with a team of engineers and technicians. The collaborative environment also encourages asking questions and developing technical skills crucial for a maritime engineering career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an engine room intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Engine Room Intern, you need foundational knowledge in mechanical or marine engineering, basic understanding of engine operations, and currently be pursuing or holding a relevant technical or engineering degree. Familiarity with engine diagnostic tools, maintenance logs, and safety management systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills and qualifications are important to ensure safe, efficient engine room operations and successful learning in a hands-on maritime environment.

Job description

Location: Torrance, CA - in-office, 5 days/week
Type: Paid seasonal internship
• 40 hrs/week
• $20.00/hr (overtime paid per California law)
Travel: National event circuit with weekend availability. Code Eleven covers all travel, lodging, and meals; all hours worked - including weekends and travel days - are paid.
Team: Code Eleven Studio
About Code Eleven
Code Eleven builds and operates the properties where the best young athletes in America are discovered - Elite 11 (the definitive quarterback showcase for two decades), Area Code Baseball (amateur baseball's premier summer showcase since 1987), and The Opening (top football recruits at Nike's world headquarters). Code Eleven Studio is the content engine on top of those events: film, series, live programming, and the social channels that reach millions of fans, recruits, coaches, and college programs each year.
The Role
You'll help run social media across Code Eleven's properties - Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook for Elite 11, Area Code Baseball, The Opening, and more as the portfolio grows. Working alongside the Studio team, you'll cut assets, publish posts, track performance, and help coordinate other interns and event-day staff. It's a hands-on role with real responsibility and room to grow.
What You'll Do
  • Manage day-to-day publishing across all platforms and properties, keeping each brand's voice distinct but consistent
  • Handle community management - comments, DMs, and interactions with athletes, families, coaches, and college programs
  • Help build and hold the annual social calendar and weekly publishing schedule, in step with the Studio's broader content grid
  • Create and publish original assets - short-form video, graphics, motion, stills - including same-day turnaround during events
  • Maintain brand templates and asset libraries so quality holds at volume
  • Track the numbers (reach, engagement, growth, watch time, retention), test formats and hooks deliberately, and report what you learn
  • Execute sponsored deliverables to spec and capture the assets and metrics partnership teams need
  • Support on-site event coverage - help build shot lists, coordinate footage, and edit and publish in real time from the field
  • Help coordinate other interns and event-day content staff, reviewing work before it goes out

Who You Are
Required
  • Strong, demonstrable command of the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Lightroom)
  • Native fluency in Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook - what actually performs on each today
  • Referenceable accounts you've personally run (personal, brand, team, school, or freelance all count)
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and execute a content calendar across multiple brands
  • Strong writing - captions that sound like the brand, not like a marketer
  • Comfort with analytics and the discipline to let data change your mind
  • Able to work in our Torrance office 5 days/week, with weekend availability and willingness to travel during event season
  • Genuine interest in football, baseball, and the recruiting landscape

Preferred
  • Live-event or same-day content workflow experience
  • Motion and sound design chops
  • Familiarity with scheduling/analytics tools (Sprout Social, Zoomph, Hootsuite, or similar)
  • Understanding of sponsored content and brand-safety standards
  • Experience mentoring other creators, and knowledge of the high school and college athlete landscape

No candidate checks every box. If your experience is close to what's described here, apply - we care most about dedication, impact, and thriving in a fast, collaborative environment.
How to Apply
Apply through TeamWork Online - applications through any other channel won't be reviewed. Your application must include:
  1. Résumé
  2. Links to accounts you've run (what you were responsible for, and over what period)
  3. A link to your reel or portfolio of original work, noting the Adobe tools used for each piece
  4. One short answer (200 words max): Pick one Code Eleven property. What's the single biggest thing you'd change about its social, and why?

Applications without work samples will not be reviewed.
Logistics & Compensation
  • Pay: $20.00 per hour
  • Schedule: 40 hours/week, 5 days/week in our Torrance, CA office
  • Overtime: Event weeks, weekends, and travel days are compensated in accordance with California law
  • Travel: National event circuit - Code Eleven covers travel, lodging, and meals, and all hours worked on the road are paid
  • Term: 6 months with potential for extension
