Job description

Summary: Responsible for a variety of routine shipping, receiving, production, and housekeeping tasks including loading and unloading trucks and railcars. Production tasks include material handling, stacking, labeling, and organizing product in accordance with warehouse requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work on days, nights and/or weekends
  • Submission to periodic random drug testing per federal regulations and company policy
  • Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance
  • Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews
  • Receive instructions, requests, orders, and information from posted bulletins, memorandums, rules, and regulation manuals
  • Turn hand brake wheel on rail cars to secure from movement
  • Communicate with team members via radio
  • Ability to communicate precise movements of equipment based on customer and safety requirements
  • Spatial reasoning skills required
  • Perform other duties as requested or required
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area
  • Assist in physical inventory counts
  • Inspect equipment before and after shifts
  • Top off equipment fluids as necessary

Shipping

  • Prepare orders for shipment in accordance with the pick ticket / BOL and customer requirements
  • Complete product inventory at multiple stages through the product lifecycle
  • Package / load and ship safely without causing damage
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area
  • Organize BOL/Manifests and cross check with customer order ticket to ensure accuracy of product being loaded
  • Comply with all safety rules and procedures throughout duration of work day

Receiving

  • Ability to unload multiple types of containers including flatbed, van trailer, and box cars through a variety of weather conditions indoors and outdoors
  • Sort, count, package, label, and unpack inventory that is received
  • Inspect shipments for damages, loss, or defects
  • Operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading material and equipment
  • Shrink wrap palletized product to protect from damage
  • Restack damaged product, consolidate partial pallets by hand as necessary
  • Ensure proper stock rotation

Minimum Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older
  • At least 2 years of verifiable work experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a pre-hire physical
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken, including familiarity with common colloquialisms
  • Ability to calculate basic math
  • No felony convictions within the past 5 years
  • Basic computer skills, i.e., understanding written instruction through emails and charts

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of warehouse and or railroad operations
  • Inclined to working indoors or outdoors through a variety of weather conditions
  • Previous forklift experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as needed
  • Ability to work together as a member of a team, alongside other team members daily

Physical Requirements

  • Heavy work, lifting to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
  • Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis
  • Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis
  • Ability to work in cramped, confined, or enclosed spaces

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience outdoors (e.g., construction, heavy equipment operation, farming, landscaping)

Employment Conditions

  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, and safety glasses
