Now Hiring Hazardous Waste Technicians for a PCB Manufacturing Company in Milpitas!

Job Description

As a Hazardous Waste Technician, you'll oversee wastewater treatment and hazardous waste systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. You'll monitor equipment, maintain chemical inventories, and help the team meet environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the detailed training plan as specified in the Results Producing Management (RPM) schedule and apply learned procedures consistently.
  • Maintain chemical supplies and ensure all chemicals are stored in the correct locations according to company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with plating departments to determine when process baths must be dumped and ensure proper handling and disposal.
  • Ensure all spent chemical drums are properly marked, dated, and labeled in compliance with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Prepare manifests for the transport of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain the recovery and wastewater treatment systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • Monitor and record the chemical analysis of wastewater entering and leaving the wastewater treatment and recovery systems.
  • Check water systems for leaks and conduct on-site inspections to identify issues and verify proper operation.
  • Maintain all equipment in good working order, including performing basic preventive maintenance and reporting issues promptly.
  • Report all spills, incidents, and operational problems to the Environmental Manager or designated environmental representative.
  • Follow all company and departmental processes, procedures, and policies related to safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Monitor the quality of work and ensure compliance with process and product specifications.
  • Communicate changes in production status to the department supervisor to support planning and coordination.
  • Communicate material inventory concerns to the department supervisor to ensure adequate supplies and prevent interruptions.
  • Maintain and manage statistical process control (SPC) data collection charts for wastewater and related processes.
  • Acquire and continually improve knowledge of internal and external customer needs related to environmental and production requirements.
  • Participate and contribute in red bead, quality, or production meetings to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in evaluating processes, new equipment, facility improvements, and procedures from an environmental and operational perspective.
  • Implement and maintain regulatory requirements related to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and technicians daily to ensure engineering and manufacturing operations meet environmental objectives and regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with hazardous waste, including handling, storage, and disposal activities.
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste operations and related safety practices (HAZWOPER or similar experience).
  • Experience with wastewater, wastewater treatment, and water treatment processes.
  • Ability to maintain chemicals and supplies, including ensuring proper labeling, marking, and storage.
  • Ability to maintain and operate wastewater treatment and recovery equipment safely and effectively.
  • Experience managing and maintaining statistical process control (SPC) data collection charts.
  • Understanding of hazardous waste disposal practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to perform general labor tasks related to chemical handling, equipment maintenance, and facility inspections.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs and manipulate hand carts to move 55-gallon drums.
  • Ability to use reaching and pulling motions with arms and hands and to climb ladders safely.
  • Capability to work safely around hazardous chemistry, wet conditions, and chemical baths.
  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate noise, prolonged standing, and walking.

The position involves frequent handling of chemical containers and 55-gallon drums, including the use of hand carts and forklifts. Required personal protective equipment includes safety glasses and a smock; open-toed shoes, short-sleeved shirts, and shorts are not permitted. You will regularly work around water systems, wastewater treatment equipment, and recovery systems while performing inspections, monitoring processes, and maintaining equipment in a structured and procedure-driven environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $33.00/hr.
