Job description

Overview
The primary purpose of the Material Handler position is to help facilitate quality orders that are shipped on time by loading, unloading, kitting, and moving materials within or near plant, yard, or work site and by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities
  • Reads traveler or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Loads materials into vehicles or pallets and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
  • Counts and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
  • Operates forklift to load truck, and to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Performs kitting function for work cells in designated area.
  • Others may be assigned

Competencies
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to operate a forklift and/or a pallet jack. The employee frequently is required to move and retrieve. The employee is occasionally required to stay in a stationary position; ascend or work atop; and stoop or traverse. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed Forklift Operator.
