Job description

Job Description:
General Summary:
The Electrical Designer, with some supervision from the senior staff and/or the Manager of Electrical Engineering, will provide electrical analysis, design and drafting skills for lighting, power and associated control systems, and low voltage systems such as IT and fire alarm for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial, educational, governmental, and healthcare structures in conformance to client requirements and applicable codes. The Electrical Designer will provide design and engineering to develop construction documents for the installation, interconnection, and control of architectural, electrical, and mechanical components.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Possess / demonstrate the engineering knowledge and understanding to design and analyze electrical systems for the installation, interconnection, and control of architectural, electrical and mechanical components.
  • Using applicable codes and standards, design lighting and power distribution systems, low voltage systems (e.g. fire alarm systems, telecommunications/data networks, lighting control systems, power monitoring systems, etc.), and sizing of equipment.
  • Knowledge of the NFPA standards, as they apply to the electrical design
  • Able to adhere to project quality, budget, and schedule.
  • Prepare feasibility studies and schematic design packages of lighting, power systems, etc.
  • Possess / demonstrate the graphic ability to produce construction documents per company and client standards
  • Communicate and work with all other disciplines to produce coordinated construction documents
  • Conduct field measuring and checking at the project site
  • Maintain organized project file containing project calculations, schedules, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.
  • With assistance, edit and draft project specifications
  • Review project submittals (shop drawings) for conformance with contract documents; specify action required for conformance
  • Respond to RFIs
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Employment Qualifications:
Education:
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • LEED accredited professional qualification preferred

Experience:
  • 3-5+ years of experience in electrical engineering field
  • Experience with short-circuit analysis and coordination (e.g. SKM, ETAP or EasyPower) preferred

Certification:
  • Possess the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification from any of the 50 states preferred

Skills/Competencies:
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
  • Bluebeam
  • BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong attention to detail
