Job description

Johnsonville Location: Tech Center

Position Overview
You will execute Research and Development Product Development activities in support of our Packaging Engineering and Sensory/Consumer Insights Groups under the direction of Product Development scientists. You will work within Johnsonville's Research and Development - Product Development group and interact with Sensory/Consumer Insights, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Information Systems and Supply. Your main objectives will be to assist in the development/processing/packaging of new product platforms, line extensions and product improvements; evaluate the sensory characteristics of the several product designs that are generated; and participate in the cross-functional activities of project teams relative to the product development role. The role is structured as a summer internship.
Responsibilities
  • Develop Project Vision, Objective(s), Scope, and Deliverables
  • Plan project activities and develop timelines
  • Work on cross-functional teams and work independently
  • Assist in pilot plant trials and plant trials
  • Maintain accurate and complete work records such as a notebook and status reports
  • Share your ideas, questions, problems, and results with other team members

Education
  • Candidate must currently be working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Meat Science or Food Science from an accredited university; junior or senior status preferred
  • 3.5 minimum GPA strongly preferred

Experience
  • Relevant coursework in the areas of Meat Science or Food Science
  • Lab experience preferred
  • Prior work experience preferred

Skills
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other facilities
  • Ability to work off shifts as needed
  • Desire to learn, grow and contribute in a team-based environment
  • Must possess a drive for excellence
  • Must maintain confidentiality of proprietary information

  • Start Date: May 24, 2027
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Travel: Minimal
