Position Description
Position Summary
The Work-Based Learning Internship, in partnership with participating high schools, offers hands-on experience, allowing student interns to receive class credit while gaining valuable fabrication shop training with D.A. Dodd. The intern will work closely with the fabrication manager and crew at Lafayette, IN. facility, observing firsthand the application of fabrication and welding skills in a real work setting. As an intern, you will receive guidance from experienced professionals and assist in the fabrication shop. We are looking for innovative individuals who are eager to learn and make valuable contributions to our team.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Perform the necessary tasks and follow instructions as given by the fabrication manager.
  • Abide by all company policies and procedures.
  • Become proficient with D.A. Dodd's safety guidelines and procedures, actively participating in efforts to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • On-the-job training to learn fabrication techniques, welding, and general terms frequently used in the mechanical industry.
  • Learn to inspect materials for quality conformance using measuring devices, equipment, parts, and/or drawings.
  • Follow written and verbal directions to complete assignments and job related tasks.
  • Understands how to manage daily work expectations and goals.
  • Always act professionally and cooperate with team members.

Position Requirements
Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, twist, stoop, pull, push, assemble, and carry for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with an assist.
  • Ability to perform work in an environment with high noise levels.
  • Ability to work in an environment that may include hot, cold, and/or humid temperatures.

Qualifications
  • Current high school junior or senior in "good standing", 16 - 18 years of age.

  • Must possess the ability to utilize a tape measure, caliper, basic hand tools and air tools.
  • Successful completion of D.A. Dodd's pre-employment process including background and reference check, and drug test (with permission of a parent or legal guardian).

FLSA Status: This internship is a part-time position. The internship is considered a non-exempt position.
Reporting: This position reports to the Fabrication and Operations Managers.
