Job description

Overview

If you’re looking for a special place to build or grow your career, you’ve found it. The Director of Process Engineering leads the development, optimization, and scale‑up of manufacturing processes to support Mott Corporation’s growth across semiconductor, aerospace & defense, and industrial markets. This role drives process stability, improves yield and cost performance, and ensures successful industrialization of new products.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Market‑Aligned Process Development – lead process engineering efforts in line with Mott’s three core markets: ultra‑high purity semiconductor, high‑reliability aerospace & defense, and efficient industrial production. Ensure all processes meet customer, regulatory and performance requirements and align process capability with market‑specific demands.
  2. Process Optimization & Manufacturing Support – own process performance metrics and drive continuous improvement: improve yield and first‑pass yield, optimize throughput and cycle time, reduce scrap and rework, lead root‑cause analysis, and standardize documentation.
  3. New Product Introduction (NPI) & Scale‑Up – partner with R&D and cross‑functional teams to accelerate new product industrialization. Lead Design‑for‑Manufacturability reviews, support transition from R&D to production, enforce APQP, PFMEA and validation disciplines, and speed time‑to‑market.
  4. Process Capability & Technology Development – advance core manufacturing technologies in advanced materials processing, precision machining, and high‑spec cleaning and assembly. Evaluate new equipment, tooling, and automation, and continuously improve process capability and repeatability.
  5. Continuous Improvement & Performance Management – lead Lean and Six Sigma initiatives, establish KPI dashboards, drive accountability, and execute cost‑out and efficiency improvement initiatives.
  6. Team Leadership & Development – coach and develop process engineers, build technical capabilities for semiconductor, aerospace & defense, and industrial needs, recruit and retain top talent.
  7. Cross‑Functional Collaboration – integrate with Operations, R&D/Engineering, Quality and customers for technical discussions, escalation resolution and regulatory compliance.
Key Performance Metrics
  • Yield / FPY improvement across lines.
  • Process Capability (Cp/Cpk) and statistical process control.
  • Cycle time reduction and throughput improvements.
  • Scrap and cost reduction through Lean and Six Sigma.
  • NPI launch success and speed (on‑time, on‑spec introductions).
  • Process stability and repeatability via standardized work instructions.
Qualifications
  • Required: 10–15 years of progressive process engineering experience in manufacturing; expertise in semiconductor, aerospace & defense, or advanced industrial manufacturing; strong process development, scale‑up and industrialization skills; proven root‑cause analysis (8D, DMAIC), Lean and Six Sigma; leadership of technical teams; APQP, PFMEA and process validation experience.
  • Preferred: exposure to multiple target markets within one organization; knowledge of filtration, flow control or advanced materials products; experience in cleanroom or contamination‑sensitive environments; global manufacturing operations; advanced degree (M.S. or MBA) in engineering or business.
Leadership Attributes
  • Execution‑Focused – delivers measurable process improvements.
  • Technically Strong – diagnoses and solves complex manufacturing challenges.
  • Hands‑On Leader – engages directly with the factory floor.
  • Collaborative – builds trust across Operations, R&D and Quality.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset – relentlessly refines processes.
  • Talent Builder – invests in team growth and development.
