  • Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Data Scientist. This position will be located in Roy, Utah or Manhattan Beach, California and will support the Sentinel program.
    The SDS Division Analytics team is seeking an experienced data professional. They will work directly with the Division Analytics Chief Data Engineer, frontend data visualization specialists, and product stakeholders by developing, deploying, and maintaining data pipelines from authoritative data sources needed for metrics and analytics. These data pipelines are crucial for the Division to gain insight into their data to positively influence decision-making at the highest levels and within individual teams.

What you will get to do:
  • Work with a team of talented professionals passionate about the work they do
  • Engage with teams across the entire program to understand their analytics and data modeling requirements
  • Help architect and build data pipelines connected to multiple program ASoTs
  • Apply data engineering processes and procedures to manage infrastructure, storage, and transformation of data to enable scalable and performant analytics
  • Develop and publish Tableau server dashboards and visualizations used to inform individuals and leaders across the program.
  • Apply state of the art data science approaches to develop analytical solutions providing program insights
  • Work within an agile framework focused on stakeholder outcomes
  • Recommend process changes to business leaders to improve efficiency

Basic Qualifications
  • 5 Years experience with bachelor's degree in relevant field of study; 3 years with masters; a PhD; or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • Proficiency in writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex SQL queries
  • Experience managing and maintaining SQL databases
  • Experience in defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics related to business and engineering analytics
  • Expertise in developing and managing ETL processes
  • Advanced proficiency in Python programming for data analysis, manipulation, and automation
  • Proficient in using version control systems such as Git for collaborative development
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies for project management
  • Strong communication skills to present findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, 3 years relevant experience with a master's degree, or a PHD in either Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering
  • Experience with IBM Rational DOORS requirements management software and with DXL (DOORS eXtension Language) scripting
  • Experience with Teamwork Cloud Cameo modeling software and its data structures
  • Strong experience in publishing, maintaining, and managing Tableau reports on Tableau Server
  • Capability to bridge the gap between business requirements and technical specifications
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their data services
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for data science deployment
  • Proficiency in applying advanced statistical methods and machine learning techniques
  • Experience in performing predictive and prescriptive analytics

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,200.00 - $162,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
