Description
Position Summary:
We are searching for a Bioprocess Engineer that will drive process and product innovation through adaptation of both existing and novel single-use technologies. This role will support both our new product development pipeline and customer service projects through conceptualization, research, design, and evaluation. The team member will work diligently in collaboration with other R&D teams by generating application-specific biotechnology data and verifying all new products meet all functional requirements for the intended use. Day-to-day work will cover a broad range of both upstream and downstream bioprocessing unit operations involving our single-use offerings as well as their associated controllers and peripheral equipment.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate on experiment plans, perform studies, and analyze and report study results and recommendations both verbally and in written formats.
  • Perform engineering analysis and modeling (i.e., heat and mass transfer, CFD, surface chemistry, biological systems, etc.) of components and systems using sound, established engineering and root cause analysis principles.
  • Set-up and execution of bioreactor processes, including process development of processes at different scales of bioreactor systems
  • Support technology transfer into development
  • Coordinate, assist, and/or execute process characterization and process validation studies as needed (in-house or externally).
  • Support problem solving and continuous process/product improvements
  • Document experimental results/concepts to support patent and intellectual property portfolio
  • Work with customer base and field representatives on new product and process concepts including alpha and beta testing
  • Travel as required to perform job functions. This position may travel up to 10%

Requirements
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Biological, or Biochemical Engineering; or Molecular, Cell, or Protein Biology; or a similarly appropriate field of study
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Ability to work well in a group environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Laboratory research or biotechnology process development experience.
  • Knowledge of general bioprocess operations (cell culture, microbial fermentation, harvest & recovery) and cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) type environments.
  • Experience in the medical device or biopharmaceutical industries.
  • Software proficiency: MS office programs, SAS/JMP, DoE, Matlab/Simulink, CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD a plus)
  • Automation and instrumentation proficiency: knowledge of Delta-V based bioreactor control systems and supporting unit operations.
  • Team oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Basic project management skills (time management, interpret Gantt charts)
