Job description

Digital Signal Processing Engineer
Valencia, CA - Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
The Digital Signal Processing Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing digital signal processing algorithms and embedded software for cochlear implant systems. This role focuses on specification, design, analysis, and integration of embedded software with custom hardware components while contributing to the development of next-generation hearing technologies.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement DSP algorithms supporting advanced sound processing strategies for cochlear implants
  • Develop embedded software for real-time cochlear implant applications
  • Integrate software with custom ICs, A/D and D/A conversion components, analog circuitry, sensors, and communication modules
  • Modify and optimize existing firmware and embedded software to improve performance and address design challenges
  • Conduct software requirements analysis and create technical documentation including software specifications, test plans, and procedures
  • Develop and enhance DSP algorithms to improve speech processing strategies
  • Troubleshoot embedded software issues throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Support audio integration activities through debugging and front-end signal analysis
  • Assist verification and validation efforts through test plan development and execution
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and product development teams

More about you:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field required
  • Master's or PhD preferred
  • 1-5 years of experience developing embedded software, ideally in audio or medical device applications
  • Strong DSP theory background and expertise in digital signal processing and analysis
  • Strong MATLAB programming skills
  • Experience with low-level fixed-point DSP programming
  • Familiarity with digital and analog hardware design
  • Experience programming embedded software in C and assembler across DSP platforms
  • Background in audio DSP, .NET/C#, or Machine Learning concepts is a plus
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

A minimum of 200Mb/sec download and 10Mb/sec upload speed internet connectivity is required to support any remote/hybrid employee functionality at Sonova

This role's pay range is between $79,000/yr - $95,000/yr. This role is also bonus eligible.
