Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer IIJob DescriptionThis position entails leading the design of electrical power distribution and signal networks for auxiliary equipment in Gas Turbine projects, focusing primarily on low-voltage systems (600V and below). The role involves creating and implementing designs with equipment such as MCCs, LV Transformers, DC Systems, and Batteries.
Responsibilities- Develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and cable schedules.
- Create power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit/cable tray arrangements, and hazardous area classifications.
- Perform calculations and sizing for equipment, cables, conduits, and illumination levels, while maintaining BOMs and other design duties.
- Develop and review electrical, control, and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
- Prepare purchase specifications for electrical equipment and select vendors for constructing electrical packages.
- Generate electrical drawing packages to document logic, point-to-point wiring, and system interaction.
- Interpret and design according to code requirements from relevant authorities and investigate applicable electrical codes for projects.
- Regularly meet with vendors to ensure technical and schedule requirements are met.
- Interpret and integrate design requirements from the parent company and respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
- Utilize SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and SmartPlant 3D (S3D) for designing electrical power and control systems.
- Possess knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design for industrial facilities, with a preference for experience working with Generators in Gas or Steam Turbines.
- Comply with safety policies and report unsafe activities.
- Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals, contributing to a positive team spirit.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of employees and manage various assignments to meet schedule deadlines.
- Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions and identify potential risks to product quality.
- Develop schedules, coordinate, and manage design projects of all sizes with minimal supervision.
- Simplify product designs for improved manufacturability and cost reduction without compromising quality and function.
- Assist Sales, Marketing, and Development Engineering in enhancing existing and developing new product lines.
- Meet schedule requirements for project engineering deliverables and provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning.
- Lead junior engineers and interns, supporting their development.
- Travel up to 10% is required.
Essential Skills- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
- Minimum of three years of technical and/or practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design (up to 600VAC and 220VDC).
- Strong familiarity with the National Electric Code (NFPA 70) is required.
- Experience with SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, and SmartPlant 3D is desired.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Familiarity with electrical codes and industry standards such as NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, ISA, AGA, and others is desirable.
- Expertise in SmartPlant Electrical for report creation, symbol creation, and data maintenance is a plus.
- Past experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation and SmartSketch is advantageous.
- Minimum of two years of experience or significant expertise with SmartPlant 3D, particularly in electrical tray/conduit specifications and design.
- Experience with AutoCAD and lighting calculation software like DIALux or Visual is beneficial.
Work EnvironmentThe position is based in the office in Lake Mary, FL, with a hybrid schedule of 4 days in the office and 1 day remote.
