Job description

Job Summary: The Design Engineering intern is a training and career path for future direct hire positions. Engineering Universities provide generic theory. Most Automotive Suppliers must then train new graduates. By hiring interns early, we will be able to specifically train them in Aluminum Extrusion profile design and promote the Constellium brand to their fellow classmates. The Engineering interns would report to the Sr. Technical Manager, however, would be mentored by the Sr. Design Engineers. This would give leadership opportunities to the Engineers. Each Intern would be given an individual project to complete within the semester and/or, if there are other Interns, a group project. The project would be one of the following: document/update existing processes or create training documentation to support ISO certification or in continuous improvement. Their day-to-day responsibilities would be to support the Engineers with CAD.
Responsibilities
Support the Product Development process by
  • 3D CAD and drawings
  • Support of Manufacturing plant such as with Engineering changes
  • Support of Sub-suppliers such as data transfer
  • Support internal crash safety testing and development
  • Utilize problem solving techniques to identify the root cause and develop countermeasures when targets for critical metrics that are not met

All other duties assigned by Supervisor and necessary to perform the job
Requirements
Preferred:
  • CAD experience such as CATIA, Siemens NX

Required:
  • Mechanical or Materials Engineering major
  • Strong decision-making ability and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organization and communication skills are required
  • Must be computer literate and have experience in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.

Details about internship/Co-op program below:
  • Offers:
    • Intern offers are for Summer with a scheduled start date in May of ending in August
    • Interns and co-ops will need to complete a background check, drug screen, and physical before starting employment with Constellium.
    • Interns and co-ops will turn in a copy of their transcript at the beginning of every new work term and or semester.
    • Interns and co-ops can be offered additional work terms after graduation. Once they reach a year after graduation, interns and co-ops will not be offered another work term.
  • Compensation/Benefits
    • Time off
    • Interns and co-ops will receive 2 paid personal days per work term and or semester
    • Interns and co-ops can take unpaid time off per manager approval.
  • Reimbursements
    • Interns and Co-ops qualify for the safety shoe and safety glasses reimbursement.
  • Interns and co-ops will receive pay raises based on their class standing. To get a pay raise interns and co-ops will need to turn in their transcript.
  • Interns and co-ops are eligible for a monthly $750 housing stipend if they live 50 miles away from their home location. To receive the stipend interns and co-ops will need to fill out the housing stipend form and provide the required documentation.
  • Interns and co-ops qualify for expense reimbursements, only if they had manager and intern coordinator approval ahead of time
